Aaron Davey VS Alwyn Davey

Just watching the bombers 2day and enjoyed watchin Alwyn style of play.. Who would you prefer out of the 2 brothers?? I would still choose Aaron because i think he will give us more in the future and has bit more polish with the footy.. Also did MFC look at Alwyn Davey at all?? Would of been magic watching the two of them 2gether, and if the game was tight they could move Arron up around the ball and still have a Livewire inside 50!!

I wouldnt pay attention to the stats, even though Aaron has it over him.

Aaron Davey is a marked man, whilst Alwyn currently runs around unmarked

Aaron is way better and always will be

I think it would be probably more interesting and insightful to compare their first 7 games to each others... i cant be bothered now, but someone should!

Though i do agree with YM... Aaron will always be the better, more versatile brother... (in my eyes anyway)...

But you gotta admit, Alwyn does do all the things that we came to love about Aaron!

Also did MFC look at Alwyn Davey at all??

Yeah we did. He did a pre-season with us (maybe even 2, correct me if i'm wrong?), but seemed too much of a risk with his size, weight, and like Aaron (tho he has improved a lot this year in this regard), deficiencies overhead. nd he wasnt setting the world on fire in the SANFL by most accounts.

The FD probably didnt think we had room for two, 'soft' like-typed players with obvious deficiencies on our list, which seems fair enough. Though how handy would Alwyn be for us now with Aaron moving up the ground? Hindsight is a b*tch sometimes...

I went to Hawthorn vs Essendon and although Alwyn is very quick off the mark in the mould of his brother, i get the feeling that he would snap like a twig should somebody lay a good solid hit on him. During the second quarter he took a looped handball pass (a-la Hird when Wheels hit him) and there was a large bodied Hawk in the vicinity, while he wasn't smashed in that incident (the player went for the ball as well instead of putting a hip and shoulder in) i actually did fear for his safety.

On the other hand though, we probably thought the same thing with Aaron came on the scene!

I think it would of worked really well the forward set-up.. with the two davey`s.. But i could see y the coaching staff would of choosen not to select him. How good would it be if they line up against each other when we play the bombers.. Would love to see Arron run him down on the wing in front of there members!!!

aaron clearly the more established player with a tag most weeks where alwyn hasnt got a tag yet as he is new blood in the afl when teams start to notice him hell find it a bit more tougher to get easier kicks(not saying all his kicks are uncontested)

the signs lok good though but i prefer arron over Alwyn...

Perhaps, for a more insightful comparison you should compare Flash's first 7 games against his brothers rather than just their performances this year?

Sorry Dee-Voted I don't have the time to do it now.

Go Dees

Aaron - Alwyn in their first 7 games

Goals: 11 - 11

Marks: 11 - 29

Disposals: 78 - 91

Kicks: 59 - 49

What's that tell us? SFA if you ask me. Their starts have been almost identical, that comes as no surprise given that they're built almost in the same way. You can't compare the two yet because Aaron is a senior, experienced player and Alwyn is still taking baby steps.

Ask again when there's been fair time to measure the two.

The other thing to consider is that Aaron was 20 when he played his first game and Alwyn was 22.

Aaron is way better and always will be

I'm absolutely red hot on this topic, and have been trying to fight the good fight on Aaron's behalf... but I'll try and keep it short...

Call me biased if you want, but Aaron is still streets ahead of his brother, and given his head start, I think will be regarded the better player in the long run, as well as now...

BUT he isn't!! just because the dons picked another Davey up, and wit their supporter base, and the fact they're the darlings of the media, we have to sit back and watch Alwyn get as much press in the first 4 rounds as Aaron got in his first year.

As stated above, he started earlier, had to fight from being a rookie (though not for long), he came into football when players of his size and type were not fashionable, and now that he's there, an identical player (albeit 2 years older than he was when drafted) has been drafted not only in the normal draft, but well into the second round, and in a superdraft year no less BECAUSE of the influence Aaron has exerted on the comp.

We'll be arguing this point, and seeing it posed over and over, and since they are both similar in size and the way they go about it, I don't think we'll ever come to a conclusion until MANY years into the future when both are retired and we can stand back and really apply the microscope.

At this stage you'd have to be a ninny to think it would be Alwyn. And most people are unfortunately... they can't see red and blue, but can see red and black perfectly well.

The only thing i think Alwyn does better, is he has this great tackling technique, where he waits for the player to pick up the ball, then tries to pin the free hand while dragging them down so they can't effect a correct disposal.

Isn't that what Aaron does? I KNOW I've seen him do that a bit in the past...

what i don't understand is that after watching aaron use only his left foot for 4 years, teams are still not covering alwyn's, watching him fake to go to his right, falling for it, then being burnt when he cuts back to his left. when teams stop that a lot of his flashiness will be put under the most pressure, and we'll see if there's anything inside, as we found out with aaron last week, there is plenty inside his game!

I think it would be probably more interesting and insightful to compare their first 7 games to each others... i cant be bothered now, but someone should! :

I cant' remember the first 7, but I clearly remember his first.

Against hawthorn I think, and in his first 1/2 he kept the team in the game single handedly, kicking 2 goals and assiting in the other 2.

I think only 4 were kicked in the first 2 1/4's.

Showed absolutely no sign of being over-awed

I have had to put upwith the whole ALWYN IS BETTER crap all year at work. Have people lost their long term memory??? Aaron Davey is a GUN, he is better the ALWYN buy a long shot. Cast back over last season, davey was second to none in running players down. Now its all about ALWYN. I wish alwyn well, but people have to wake up and remember that there is ONLY ONE FLASH IN THE AFL-AARON DAVEY.

We won't be able to determine who is a better play for a few years yet, but one thing is certain, the only reason Alwyn is playing AFL is because of his brother.

He is a 22 year old second round draft pick, which is rare. If our footy club didn't take a chance on Davey, and he didn't burst onto the scene with his pace and his defensive pressure, nobody would look twice at Alwyn.

the fact is that alwyn will eventually tear his hammy (like aaron did) and will lose a bit of pace.

that will be the test to see whether he is quality. aaron has already passed

While I fully understand all the comparisons due to how similar the brothers are in skills and appearance, at this stage it is a waste of time even thinking about it.

Aaron Davey has played 72 games, Alwyn has played 8. Anyone who says Alwyn will be better is just guessing. But to say Aaron will always be streets ahead of him is also speculative.

The one thing I have noticed though is that Alwyns tackles seem to stick more than Aarons do.

Both will struggle in finals pressure football.

Quite possibily.

Aaron has at least played finals, it will be a couple of years before Alwyn gets a chance.

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.

The Dees are back at the MCG on Thursday for the annual blockbuster ANZAC Eve game against the Tigers. Can the Demons win back to back games for the first time since Rounds 17 & 18 last season? Who comes in and who goes out?
