I really hope Schache finds some mongrel mojo and gets into form, would love to see him do well and if he did he'd be an asset to the club up forward.  C'mon Schack...ATTACK!!!

No - not going to happen

What he does have is footy IQ, acumen, creates space and finds himself against mismatched opponents

He still has a lot to learn (despite the fact that he's been in the system for while), but he is in the best place for that right now

I guess we have to see how TMac gets on, but with Melksham out (or possibly finishing), BBB probably retiring, Schache at least gives some back up to our already stretched forward line.

A chap who sits behind me at the footy (maybe he posts on here?) has a theory that the coaching staff really rate Schache's ability and are trying to make him hungry. Not sure about that, but a theory nonetheless!

I think he CAN play. Several very good periods for Casey especially as a ruck/ forward . Was ok in the one full match he played in the seniors  early this year. When he came on as sub v Hawks he was right alongside JVR and it was hard to see room for both , but I concede that I was disappointed that day

Yes, if only we could teach him 'nasty'.

Maybe some left-of-centre off-season training is required?

I like this as Schache clearly feels he can make it as a Melbourne player and the Club is showing faith in him. BBB, TMac & Melksham are highly likely to all be gone by the end of 2024 and in another year we'll definitely have a better feel for whether Jefferson is going to make it. A one year contract makes total sense to me.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
