In the recent interview, Max referred to 'Melksham's return' so a good chance he gets a new contract. 🙂.   He could be back at next year's mid season bye, in about 10 months.

I also heard this...THE MELKSHAM RETURN!!!  Made me very happy and excited that it sounds like he will be trying to recover and get back to footy ASAP...gosh I hope this happens...C'MON MILKSHAKE THE DEES AREN'T DONE WITH YOU YET 😁

That's fantastic news for Jake if he's back by July in time for hopefully another finals campaign.

I wonder what differentiates a 'good' ACL injury from a 'bad' one?

No idea. My only thought was hearing of people with partial tears. It might be something like that or just not a complicated case. I know in AFL, even though players might be ready after 10 months or so, they're often held back a full 12 months. With Jake near the end of his career, it might be a risk he'd like to take. Maybe one of our resident physio's could enlighten - with thanks @Webber

Partial tears do exist, but they’re never reconstructed. The policy is play on until or if it ruptures fully. A ‘good’ ACL is uncomplicated by other concomitant injury - no meniscal (cartilage) damage, no (or minimal) medial ligament tear, no joint surface damage or bone surface fracture. A straightforward rehab at Jake’s career point would see him in full match play at 9 months post-surgery. 12 months is the recent preferred time only to avoid general joint irritability. At 9 months, the graft is fully consolidated into the bone and fully revascularised (has a blood supply).

Max is very much the optimist. He also talked about the Gawndy experiment continuing,  whereas Goody acknowledged that it hasn't worked and that it may be over

Let's hope he's right

Max needs to be quiet on things like this, and the Grundy future. Just inviting unnecessary pressure.

Listen to the press conference. He speaks beautifully. Always with the team and his teammates at the fore of his thoughts. Even managed to excuse the All Australian selectors for their obvious disrespect to him  and at the same time made them look fools for overlooking his captaincy of the squad with his eloquence.

I just hope he makes them look even more foolish with his deeds this final series.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
