It’s how he’s moving that concerns me most. He makes Gawn look fast. Darcy Moore would run off him like a gleeful kid from his grandma.

Brown doesn’t need to work up the ground, in fact he doesn’t need to leave 50. That is now, and evidently Roo’s job.  If he gets it kicked at him, if he’s in front, he marks it, or he gets a free kick. Time and time again we have failed to live up to what he needs with direct kicking to him on a lead.

He’s not a bomb on head forward and I cannot believe or ever fathom how the coaches can’t see this. If he puts his arms in front, it’s an arm chop or a defender falls into his back.

we should be playing someone on Darcy Moore, unpopular opinion I’m sure, but that should be Jake Melksham.

Are your standards based on JVR? Because if they are, have a reality check.

In the context of big forwards, Roo is a massive anomaly in that not many come in and have an impact straight away and Jefferson isn’t ready. Not many big forwards are expected to be, but so many on this page especially think he’s going to dominate games like Roo did last year when it’s just not realistic at all, not to mention them being very different players also.

Mine aren't.  I'm realistic about developing young talls.

His complete lack of intensity is a concern.  In the third quarter there was a 50/50 high bouncing ball that he rightly tried to tap forward to advantage.  He failed because he skirted body contact.  That's just one instance, but it sums up where he's at.

He can take a lovely mark and they'll give him plenty of time, but his physicality, or lack thereof, has me doubting he'll ever be a quality AFL key forward.

When the facts change my opinion will too.

You talk structure like Brown will add to that, care to explain? JVR did just fine on Weitering by the way

Our forward structure was Brown-Tmac, Fritta and Gawn/Jackson in our Premiership year. Our defence was Petty May Lever.

It never needed to be changed other than personnel. 2 key defenders and the interceptor. And 2 key forwards and medium tall with a resting ruckman.

Brown standing in the square alleviates so much pressure from Roo purely by the defender he takes. Fritsch gets a third tall who he can play off if Brown is there. I struggle to understand why people can’t see it to be honest.

Brown started the season with 8 goals in two matches and the club admitted he shouldn’t have lined up against Sydney with his back injury.

Will never look great at VFL level with sub par ball movement and delivery.

His inclusion into the side will help Roo and Fritta tenfold. I very much hope he’s back in soon and from listening to an interview from Richo last night, he’s not far away.

Mate - dunno if you watched the D's last night but the ball movement and delivery into the forward line was disposable plastic rather than silver...if BBB needs to rely upon above par delivery to be effective - well it probably ain't gonna happen.

After this long, I thought people would trust Jason Taylor by now, who this guy he was huge on. I guess not.

I can’t wait for him to prove many wrong, because I have no doubt he will.

I did watch, and it’s a coaching issue no doubt but also, Carlton made that game very ugly and didn’t help what we did at all. They flooded the backline at all costs to stop score, which created no space. Not all teams do that, bottom 4 teams do, which Carlton are just that.

Agree that there are coaching issues but basic skill and decision making processes seem to be playing a significant part in the equation too - Angus Brayshaw hitting a Baggers defender on the chest when he was 20 metres clear of opposition and with 3 D fwds clear and begging for it is illustrative of why our scoring rate has slumped. As are the simple set shot misses ( Chandler last night was sub sub par for eg)

You excel at stating the obvious.  A rare ability.

The best recruiters can make a mistake.  The talent with Jefferson is obvious, but it doesn't mean he'll become a quality AFL player.

Hopefully, my ability to be Captain Obvious just matched yours.  No mean feat.

Comparing to JVR again who is a different beast for his age.

it’s Jefferson’s first year, so stupid to keep comparing a rare talent, to one who needs some time. But again, enjoy writing 18 year olds off, it’s a great look😂

I'm sure you watched Judd McVee last year and said the same thing when he didn’t have any influence on games.

Brown and Jefferson played target roles well and Schache as the ruck-forward was excellent

Woewodin and JJ very good thru midfield, and Laurie made smart decisions

Smith did a lot well but also a few howlers, while Turner and Adams combined well without having a huge impact

It was a quality game

As I’ve said I’d love him to prove me wrong and that my opinion is worthless. I just see what I see.

And of course I compare him to JVR as that’s the comparison of young forwards we have. Jefferson can’t yet hold his shoulders up, he looks beaten before he begins

Judging from the stats and comments we have some good depth at Casey JJ to good for VFL, Laurie, Woey, Schache look ready to come in when needed. Deakin Smith, Howes starting to get amongst it, whereas AMW, Sestan and Addams fair way to go as is Jefferson. Is Turner carrying something as he appears to have dropped off and the Big question is Benny Brownhe appeared to stop getting touches in the second half??

A really great win by Casey up at the home of the Sharks despite their monster ruckman dominating the midfield. Well done team that was a great effort.!!!

Jackson is far more mobile than Gawn, Grundy. And T Mc was churning kms at CHF. That allowed for an immobile Brown.

Now we have a kid in JvR and a big ruck, often Gawn, the biggest of rucks.

The pieces around BBB are different and BBB is different.

We also nursed BBB through 2021. Any chance he does have of making us better involves timing his run to perfection.

So you think every young key forward who comes in will be like JVR and dominate games like he did last year? Right.

That’s all I need to read then to know there’s no point continuing this conversation.

Be interested on your take on The Shack - I haven't seen much of him at Casey but during the game with the D's I thought he looked like he had good skills with ball in hand but didn't use his size to impose himself - bit like the Weed, tentative at times....am I misreading his game?

With regards to McVee, no I didn't.  His best game was the GF, which should have excited everyone.

I've not said I know more than the recruiting team.  I've said I have concerns with Jefferson avoiding body contact and showing a lack of intensity.  You can add a lack of urgency too.

You remind me of a famous interview Bill Shorten had when he said he agreed with Julia Gillard despite not knowing what she said.

I accept you don't believe you're allowed an opinion on our players because of Jason Taylor.  I find it a maniachal position to take, but each to their own.

You said that not me. I stayed that of course I compare them. They’re the 2 young key forwards we’ve recruited.
The fact you no longer want to discuss this is a relief to me

Yeah doesn’t impose himself on the game with physicality but always runs to the right spots and is a lovely kick both at goal and around the ground

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie
