Umpires not to blame - Nathan Jones!

Change 'will' to 'is' and you're spot on.

"I just wanted to play my role [against Port Adelaide] and I couldn't get really near it in the first few quarters, but I just kept trying to smash in and eventually I found my way in the end. So I played okay, but I can improve and the whole side can improve."

Great quote that, and his chase, smother and pick-up yesterday was just as great.

What a kid!

Yes a huge fan - I think he could be something we have really lacked till now - a tough on baller and would be very exciting to watch Brock McLean, Maloney, McDonald along with Jones in the middle.

THEN it releases the Johnstones and Yzes who don't get the ball as easily but can deliver (usually when things are going well)

My favourite young player and hope this is a start of a long career for Nathan Jones. Tough as nails.

BUT I LOVE HIM THE MOST!!!!!!!!!!! Saved me unpicking Steven Armstrongs number from my daughter's jumper!

Yep, add me to the Nathan Jones fan club......

He sounds like he has a good head on his shoulders, and is certainly a pleasure to watch.

And with comments and an attitude like that he is definitely a leader of the future :D !!!

he is the best true in and under hard ball winner we have.

i loved tingay and the ox so for me its great to see the number 2 and 5 on good hard footballers who relish the tough stuff

Nathan Jones is a star. Quickly becoming my favorite player! For someone so young with less than 20 games under his belt, he is already so important to us, and is having an impact. I like that he is constantly smashing his way in and working his ass off no matter what the circumstance. Short career thus far, but whenever Melbourne are in trouble, he seems to lift. In many games already he has been a spark for us. I really think he is going to be a great leader at the club for the next 10+ years, and have a fantastic football career.

The thought of him, Mclean, Moloney, Petterd, Bell, Batram, Bate, Sylvia, Dunn all up and firing...pretty exciting. All these kids have got real grunt and desire, so much so that they're the ones leading our senior players more so than not these days. That's obviously not a good thing, but it is exciting to know that barring catastrophe, we've got a great new breed coming through the club.

Keep up the good work Jonesy!

There is some great young talent floating arounf the afl. Nathan Jones is the cream of the afl's current crop of kids.

A leader in the making. having Brock and Jones in the same side makes me happy in pants.

you learn great things playing for the mighty mount eliza redlegs! go the boy! brilliant 1 per centers

He is still eligible to win the Rising Star....

In fact, yesterday was only his 13th AFL game :o

  • GAMEDAY: Western Bulldogs

It's Game Day and the Demons will be running out on the field with a new Head Coach, albeit a caretaker, for the first time in 3,060 days when they face the Western Bulldogs at the MCG today. What do you want to see from the Demons in the first match of the Post Simon Goodwin era?

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
