rihmond full back darren gasper has announced his retirement as of today

a little bitter about being told he would not be played regardless of form

tigers must be conceding the year already

Wow. Gasper made to retire by Richmond. Hardly a retirment then, more like a sacking.

Interesting that while he won't be playing, he is staying on with the Tigers to help out with their young backmen.

yeah as he said he has 2 good games, 2 games where he got the job done and 1 below par

as said he was very dissapointed to be told he wouldnt be selected again

i dont think i could work at the place you as said have just been sacked from playing with

So Richmond are conceding the season already.

I wonder if any Melbourne players should be worried. Holland and Brown must be getting nervous.

id add ward to that to, maybe even wheatley

I remember the same thing happening to andrew leoncelli a few years back. Very ordinary decisions by the respective football clubs.

Terry Wallace is a genius. If he wasn't going to play him in favour of youth five matches into a season why recontract him at the end of last year.? Maybe I just don't understand.

I think there's a fundamental difference between Melbourne and Richmond on this score. Richmond has never really embraced Coburg as a partner and with a player like Gasper it was never a tought to continue playing out the season helping younger players develop in the VFL by playing alongside them. I think that Doggy and Dutchy would stay and work to help the club at Sandringham.

Whether it helps in the long run I don't know because Sandringham's success doesn't seem to be rubbing off on Melbourne.

Sad end for gasper. He should have been given a proper send off, chaired off by a winning team.

He should have stayed in Sydney.

Hats off to gasper, he was a true 90s gem.

Well done on a good career Darren.

was one of the best fullbacks for a while. very solid. pity he couldnt kick. but well done on a good career all the same.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
