Real reason why we are not winning games

We may have injuries, we may have slow starts, but I feel really strongly that our fans are the real problem! We got soemthing like 16,000 the other week against Freo the other week. So what that its FREO! We should aim to get 25,000 to 30,000. Quantity is not just the issue. I feel the quality of the fans is as well. We are not hard enough on the players. We always say "well done Greeny" or "your the best player in the competition Brucey". We are just too soft on the players. Neale Daniher ain't the problem! Also the fans that go to the matches are usually Scotch College or Melbourne Grammaer shcool students, well they make up most of the percentage and they just fixiated on Brucey or Greeney getting fantasy points on AFL dream team. I have put below an article involving Manchester United great Roy Keane in 2000, asking the fans to help them at the home games!!! So come on Melbourne supporters get to the bloody games and start becoming harsher and stop being deluded about the fact that we are going to win a premiership each year after we win a couple of games.

What he's trying to relate to us is exactly what knowledgeable footy people have said about geelong for years, that it's a one team town & the supporters just blow hot air into their players ears constantly making the players think their better than they are & feel over secure.

I believe this is also happening with us, that we don't demand better from our players & teams. The Magpies supporters would be pulling down the grandstands now if they had to put up with what we've all gone through.

Ps: the players are inspired by the atmosphere that the crowd creates, or deinspired,,,,.

Seriously what sort of stereotype is that?? Next you are going to say they all drive Land Rovers and go to the beach, never thought I would see the day when Melbourne supporters stereotyped themselves. I truly hate Collingwood but at least they have loyal supporters, they dont care if they are winning or losing they go and watch and still think their team is bloody wonderful, and they have won more premierships so explain that to me?

Yep, it's the fans. Keane said that during the period United won the league three times in a row. So obviously the fans were affecting United's performance

Our home form from 2004-2006 has been very good. We hardly have lost at the MCG. So, yeah, it's the fans.

Your quote from Roy Keane condradicts you when you said "We are not hard enough on the players" and "We are just too soft on the players". I think Keane was getting stuck into the supporters for criticising the team without justification not for being too soft on the players. I think Melbourne fans understand the game only too well, and well enough to know when it's not going to be a good day out with the kids to see us get beaten.

Crowds can be a factor but I think its more af a factor if the crowd in general is big ie 50,000+ and the atmosphere that is created. No doubt playing in front of 16,000 at the MCG is going to make you think about how bad the tea is travelling but it wouldn't be unexpected. At the end of the day its the teams performance that's going to put bums on seats and with stars like Robbo, Nieta and McLean missing its just not going to be the same spectacle.
