I know it’s not footy-related so therefore shouldn’t be posted here, but since it’s so quiet on DL atm I hope to get away with it. 😉

Thought it only fair to include a quiz featuring only English players. They have all played Test Match cricket and all within the last 50 years. Some answers are surname only, the others are first and surname. They are not in batting order.

So, in the words of our resident Quiz Compiler Extraordinaire, @Demonstone, have at it!

1. He’ll be right before time

2. Apes ran wild for The Full

3. He must be a Sagittarius

4. I took from his first name to create an animal

5. Mr. X lives in southwest England

6. Delighted little pebble

7. Sounds like his home is in Timor-Leste

8. While at the crease, lost his head, but gee, he’ll be all G!

9. The rest are upset as business is dense

10. Architraves broken in two

11. Employed along with a doorrman and a manserrvant?

12. You reportedly fill tough Nelson Mandela’s kitbag

7 would be Graham Dilley?

I'll snaffle a couple of the easy ones and leave the hard ones for others.

3.  Jofra Archer

6.  Gladstone Small

SUrely the easy ones were

2, Mudhsuden Singh Panesar  (Nickname is Monty and Panesar - Apes and ran)

11, Butler although the double r's had me confused until I realised it is Buttler

All correct!
note to self: should’ve made them harder!

Both correct Maze. 👍🏽

Sure. If you’ve got no. 9 I’m very impressed!

Was it ever called WCW? I know it’s had a few name changes over the years.

You are thinking of WWF-WWE. WCW was their competitor (until they were bought out by WWF in 2001).

Come on guys! Only nos. 1, 4 and 12 remain unsolved, @Mazer Rackhamhaving solved nos. 9 and 10 which I’ll now reveal as the rain delay in Sydney has ended. (This was only intended as a distraction during the break.)

9. Marcus Trescothick (rest is an anagram of tres, co is an abbreviation of company which is a business and dense means thick)

10. Chris Tavare (anagram of architraves, broken in two because first and surname)

What did the WCW stand for?

Is 4 Liam Plunkett? Took i away from first name becomes Lam. 🤷‍♂️

No, but that’s a good effort.

Just now, mo64 said:

12. is Phil Tuffnell

sure is!

Mazer also solved no. 12

Clue time?

No. 1 was a very successful and well-respected captain of England in the mid to late 70’s.

No. 4 is a current player.

1. is Mike Brearley. Be (B) right (R) before time (early).

Good job! One to go.

With no. 4, mo, you guessed Liam Plunkett which is incorrect, but you were correct in taking the letter “i” out of the  first name. Thing is, you don’t discard the letter “i” since you still need it.

Hmm. Dawid Malan would make sense if the clue was "I took from his second name to create an animal.

Edit. You're correct. The "i" comes from his first name.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
