Extremely confident listen to Kate Roffey's b&f speach when she talks about getting Sally Freeman onto the board of directors at the MFC.

Sadly wrecker after so much talk and no action I will believe it when I see it. Pessimist? Yes on this subject.

Come on 'old dee', we said the same about a premiership...

I think the glass is full rjay. Just don't see this happening any time soon. I said elsewhere earlier this year that I don't see it in the life of this parliament. No votes in giving money to the MFC.

Listened to the interview on the way to work this morning.

The stuff about becoming 'unconsciously competent' is what resonated with me. I've seen so many clubs consistently possess this mindset and have yet to lose it (Geelong, Hawthorn, West Coast), clubs who had it in spades but [censored] it down the drain (Carlton and Essendon to a slightly lesser extent) and clubs who got it back after a long period in the shade (Richmond). I knew exactly what she meant when she referred to this.

I didn't like the tagline for the show 'How Kate Roffey made Melbourne unconsciously competent' because I don't view it as though she turned up, flicked a switch and the club went into games with the right mindset. That has been a process forged over 7 years from the day Roosy and PJ walked into the club. The change of philosophy she brought for mine was a perfect contrast to what is alleged to have been what Bartlett had been pushing concerning Goody in the latter phase of his reign. That said, she was a step in that process and, to be fair, she did acknowledge the much needed cultural reconstruction started from the start of 2014 onwards.

Being unconsciously competent for mine comes from setting up an environment where players can focus on football first and foremost. While Mick Malthouse is a contentious character for a number of reasons, he was spot on when he said we were 'a club that was about everything but football'.  Take a trip into the wayback machine and give me a year from 1995 onwards (besides last year) where we haven't been in the headlines for some type of administrative fiasco or player misbehavior?

2021was the outlier, and a lot of that came about from building resilience and culture over a long period. Hell, we had our president ousted and it was conducted with no bloodletting or public denigration. In years gone by, that would have set us back 5 years as the various factions spent time settling scores.

For mine that started when PJ and Roosy started the cultural overhaul back in '14 (while also acknowledging that we needed to evolve away from their approach to win a flag and that wouldn't have happened without the handover to Roffey and Goody).

To be fair though, Kate joined the board not long after PJ started with us and around about the same time Roos was signed.

Who's to say she hasn't been pushing the 'unconsciously competent' mantra since back then?

Some seem to forget Roffey has been there since the 'rebirth' began.

Sorry CF but I was admiring Kate for her past achievements as well as her 8 years on the Board and how she understands what it takes to be successful.

Overnight sensation.

Assuming of course overnight is defined as 30 odd years of being one of the best operators around.

But sure let's wait to judge.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
