The real reason we lost to the Hawks on Monday

ORIGINAL POST EDITED

I have now realsed that guys like Brown, Ward and Godders give their all, whilst Davey and Johsntone dont give a [censored]

LONG LIVE THE BATTLERS THAT BLEED FOR THE MFC!!!

Nothing like scapegoating the less popular players.

Godfrey delivered on his talent. It's not his fault that he doesn't have the talent of others. But at least he performed to his capabilities.

TJ and Davey did not deliver anywhere near their talent levels. They are players who should be blamed in this loss.

If you are blaming someone like Godfrey, then blame the coaching staff instead. They select Godfrey. All Godfrey can be asked to do is to perform to his level of ability and he did.

TJ and Davey dudded their coach for the second week in a row. How they respond and how the coaching staff responds will be interesting.

I agree with your comments, but it gets worse, Godfrey and Brown in our best 5 that means 17 players that played on Monday most of them with a lot more ability than these two played worse. I said in another post I'd love for these two blokes to be give the skill of Travis Johnstone or Trav to get the heart these two blokes have.

I applaud Brown and Godders for having a crack and giving their all whenever they play for MFC.

On your 5 inclusions, Pickett can't run out a half at VFL level, Newton everyone raves about him, but what has he done a few bags of goals at VFL reserves level. I'm a bit tired of reading that Sautner has held him back, if he was good enough he would of been able to hold down a second forwards role next to Sautner. Newton can't even hold a regular seniors spot at Sandy, if you cant do that your not going to play AFL.

Yze, is dropping him for 1 game enough, he will come back in only because of the injuries we have had, I would like to see Buckley given a go, he had good pre-season form and played OK well for Sandy on Saturday.

PJ for Jamar is their any difference, both good VFL players but had no effect at AFL level. But its wirth a try, he will get beaten at tap work but hopefully makes up for it around the ground.

Sylvia will be good to see him back.

Godfrey deserves to keep his spot. There is no doubt about that even though there is still plenty of doubt about his ability.

As for your ins YM surely Bizzell is ahead of Newton and Pickett in the pecking order.

Pickett won't play this week in the seniors. He couldn't even run out the game at Sandringham, spending the second half on the bench.

Completely agree with what you have said.

Yze Magic,

I'd stick with making rank connections between the injury list and the new trainer.

I agree with your observations, but there is one we all somtimes forget. The less talented players sometimes play well above our expectations because the opposition don't rate them and let them run free.

The success of a lot of teams doesn't just come from their star players, but from the lesser valued players that the opposition don't rate as high.

anf JAG, it works too that if you have a number of stars firing, the oppositions best stoppers try to play on them, allowing the lesser lights to shine unimpeded. if you have no stars, or your stars are horribly out of form, closer attention can be paid to the 2nd tier players who are performing well.

if we had a WC midfield, godders would get 25 touches every week, because he is not being counted on or close checked. we dont. and we have a pile of players who arent doing the damage and this highlights the lack of skill amongst the 2nd tier players.

agree totally with Yze_Magic... it shows our depth really isn't all its hyped up to be when we have to play wheatley, godfrey, brown, ward all in the same team when we have 4-5 injuries in our team.....

It's pretty simple surely?? you delist these players when they should of been delisted (2006 end) and you promote the players who at least show promise eg valenti etc.....

You then play the younger promising players in place of ward, brown, wheatley, godfrey.... i know CJ has been quiet lately but is there any chance ND could keep him in the one position? i don't think one single player has been moved more around the ground in the first 2 rounds... let him settle somewhere for god's sake.... while it is harsh on brown and godfrey to drop them seeing they give their all... we are not going anywhere with them, they should of been delisted last year as much as i love their endevour..

SYLVIA FOR WARD

YZE FOR BROWN

BIZZEL FOR WHEATLEY--- Bizz may be old but he can at least read the play and is capable of good games down back.

PETTARD FOR GODFREY

Pickett isn't fit enough and i tend to agree with the notion that Newton and Garland need a bit of time, PJ and Jamar as as ineffective as each other to be honest...

Stick with the forward line of Yze, Sylvia, Davey, Miller and you might get somewhere near a winning score

Absolutely correct

If we had 2 more godfrey's and no TJ and Aaron last week we probably would have won.

He's Yze Magic, you need to learn this. There's no such thing as "the other side is too good" for him.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
