I agree with your observations, but there is one we all somtimes forget. The less talented players sometimes play well above our expectations because the opposition don't rate them and let them run free. The success of a lot of teams doesn't just come from their star players, but from the lesser valued players that the opposition don't rate as high.

It is very hard to do in the NAB Cup. If you kick backwards in your defensive half it is not a mark.

No suprise about Newton. Who would we speculate to be the 4 unlucky ones to be cut. I hope its not Buckley, Frawley, Warnock and Hughes.

On Newton he did look out of sorts, but a couple of times he lead, the ball was not kicked to his advantage, too high, too low, left or right. I think he is a confidence player and when the skills are not on show with good ball delivery then all forwards can look very ordinary.

I managed to catch the second half at TD. Plenty of representatives from other clubs there to watch and take notes. I was pleased to see that Green looks like his heel spur operation was sucessful. He was full of running and a shot on goal went straight through the middle. I agree with most of the reports given by others, the experienced old heads cruised while the young bucks had a go. No training this morning at Trinity. Practice match at Moorabbin 2.00 today. I hope some one can go and make a report. What a day to plan the match predicted 38C.

I read on the official MFC web site that training was scheduled for Monday 18/12, Victoria Park 10.00am. Did any one get along? They usually go there for interclub practice matches, I would have thought that it was a bit early in the pre-season for that.

Session was underway when I got there at about 10 .30 and went for about another 30 minutes. Yes it is disappointing that the official MFC website is not kept up to date, but the Trinity training is usually Wednesday at 10.00 on the long field to the left of the road that you enter on.
