Well that was very entertaining.

thought I would be done after 5mins, but watched it all with great interest.

Always liked him but my respect now is huge. Very funny man. Would love to have a drink with him and listen to his stories. When he retires he could really drop some dirt on many AFL directives he has had to endure.

Given he doesn’t mind a bit of attention, could be an explosive post career book.

Diary entry Sat 24th July 2021:-

We got another email from Gil this morning. This time, it simply stated “”tonight dogs to beat Dees. Just get it done””

I only got part way through before I got distracted on other things, but thus far actually pretty impressed.

Like the part about the MFC players generally engaging with the umpires in a focused and disiplined way, without needless carry-on.  I'm sure he has to watch what he was saying when singling out praise for the MFC players in this way, so as not to be perceived as favouring us, but what he said was pretty objective and general in nature in many ways and, I'm guessing Ray was also sending a bit of a message to the rest of the comp - your conduct on the feild and behaving in a professional manner towards the umpires is an ingredient towards becoming a premership side!

Thought his insights into his junior umpiring days was also interesting.

Built a bit more respect for him out of what I've heard of the interview this far, but still got to say that he does grate on me the way he seems to carry on out on the feild and creates the attention around himself, rather than just getting on with the game.

Dieter thanks for that. It's probably the best AFL related interview I have ever seen.

Actually, It's definitely the best I've ever seen.

Informative, interesting, funny, insightful.....

I guess I could sum it up by saying that I never liked Razor Ray until I watched this YouTube clip. He is my kind of human.

edit: Should add that Robbo is now on my watch list for a follow. Wow he is good behind the mic.

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
