Baker was in the best players against the Swans apparently.

I reckon he'll be high up on the list to replace +lingers

Lockhart to

mind the smalls possibly He was 20 plus disposals and in our best.

TBH, I don't recall seeing much of Lingers all game.  I'm wondering if something happened very early in the game, to the extent he just wasn't right pretty much all game, and not able to offer his usual high level of participation & dash, and they finally pulled him off near the end??

He went down earlier in the game (maybe the second), so it might have started then and it wasn't picked up.

Whoever the replacement is, they'll be most likely lining up on Mitch Robinson. That makes me think T-Mac isn't such a terrible idea. Otherwise Gus will have to take that wing and others take Brayshaw's role. Robinson would give Baker a bath.

I see Lockhart as more of a HBer 58 but you could be right.

That makes sense.  He just didn't feature much in the game at all, making me wonder if something was wrong with him...

Mitch was huge for them in yesterday's game.  Would it be a silly idea to put Harmes on to him?  He's a tough nut and is probably about our best match up on Robinson...

Just on that game. I watched most of it and thought the players to impress in order were Sparrow, Lockhart, Jones then Chandler then Baker. Rosman looks good as a developing player and does some things that you would think can translate to AFL level but I'm pretty sure he won't be called on this year.

Sparrow deserves a game and I think Lockhart may have passed Nev in the pecking order but he still does some risky things and under extreme heat may be a bit dodgy against a Charlie Cameron so I don't think they'll throw him into the furnace yet, but I would like to see him get a go at some stage and the Salem to the wing is quite a good idea (but dodgy groins and an uninspiring game against the dogs ) may rule that out too. Baker is almost the opposite of Gus in that he hasn't developed his defensive game much at all. You can see he just wants to kick a goal. I'm not convinced with Baker. Chandler is probably third in line behind Sparrow and Jones.

I think Jones is probably the best choice against a seasoned hard-nosed side like the Lions.

Jones doesn’t chase, and against a high-scoring team like Brisbane we need EVERY player to be capable of pressuring when we don’t have the ball.

I don't think we can afford to have 2 seniors in the team (Jones and Melksham) as they cant play out a full game so 'yung Sparra' for me.

Saw Robinson star yesterday and yes he would be a long bow for Bakes to take on.

Maybe Angus tags him if he is on the wing but Harmes elsewhere is not bad unless he gets say McCluggage.

Other wing could be Salem or Rivers and Lockhart to mind smalls ie Mathieson

But structurally Msybe ANB is the best runner and Baker the most deserved I guess if not the most prudent choice.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
