I posted this in the Casey Geelong thread, but since people may not be looking at that now, I'm raising it here:

I see on the MFC website they have video of all the VFL goals and what sounds like a full-on commentary of the entire match.  Did anyone find out if that was being streamed? Who made it? If not streamed, why not? What equipment is missing to stream it? etc?

I think it is probably banned under the broadcast rights deal with the media. Unless approved it cannot be shown. Just my guess.

I think Old Dee is correct, as it seems Kayo have the streaming rights for any VFL game this season

As for the footage and commentary you saw, the footage is done every game for the players and coaches to analyse, and the commentary would have been Casey Radio doing the live call that just happened to be picked up by the mics on the camera

Kayo only streams 3 matches a week. Surely they don't have rights over the others. In fact an earlier match was streamed  that Kayo wasn't doing, so it seems they don't have rights to those.

If the footage is done for the coaches etc, why not stream it too? Didn't look top secret.

I'm no expert on Casey radio, but it didn't strike me as a radio broadcast.

the strange thing is that kayo is probably being paid for streaming the product.

the real issue is that the AFL controls the media rights for ALL AFL related content.

If it was club controlled I suspect you would see more innovation from some of the clubs

Contrast this with the EPL where say Liverpool has its own channel that shows a lot of content save for live games (replays allowed)

It was 100% the Radio Call as I recognized the callers and I used to listen to them all the time, I think whoever edited the footage of the VFL goals just amped up the audio to make it sound better

Streaming rights are complicated, if Kayo have a deal to the VFL games, even if they don't stream a game noone else is allowed to. It infringes on all kinds of property rights and ownership, I dunno I'm no lawyer but that would be my educated guess (would also explain why it was fine to stream the preseason games before Kayo took over the streaming rights at the start of the season)

The Casey vs Tigers game was streamed on the Richmond website and was not on Kayo.

Even if it is tied up in broadcast rights, the rights are worthless and they should buy them back.

I think that was the week before kayo started showing vfl games.

The audio on the all the goals video was def the casey radio call as I listened to it live.

Actually a very entertaining and enjoyable call. Perhaps mote so if a Casey fan, but they were not too over the top in their support/focus on Casey.

No that is wrong. Kayo sent me mail on April 16 saying they would be streaming VFL from the start of the season which was that day and I watched the round 1 match on Kayo, We played Richmond in round 2.  So they did not stop Richmond from streaming it.

So unless something has changed (unlikely), there seems to be no reason why clubs can't stream their VFL matches, at least when Kayo is not doing so (with free access).

So we should be able to see all VFL matches for free if the club would stream it when Kayo is doing 3 other matches.  So I ask again, what is stopping them when we can see from 'all the goals' on the MFC website that someone did video it (with/added Casey radio commentary)?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
