Four in the top 12 from the coaches is pretty damn good in an 18 team competition ............. and it's not hard to imagine Langdon, Lever and May in there as well.

The Bullies are the only other team with multiple representation (2) in the top 12.

I meant just our coaches. I don’t think he’s impacted the games as much as a couple of other Dees.

But your point is well made.

This is true of the past 3 weeks but the 6 weeks before that he was immense. Taking intercept marks in defence. Marking and impacting the scoreboard in the forward line in addition to him racking up hitouts to advantage in the ruck as well as getting his own clearances too.

The Demonland Player of the Year votes have reflected this too.

The AFL coaches votes are awarded 5,4,3,2,1 from each coach. Gawn would not be that high without votes from Goody as well. 3rd place after 8 rounds is impressive given that he did not poll any votes in rounds 7 or 8.

That was only to round 8. I imagine Clarry and Salem will feature in Round 9 too.

Definitely not enough love for Trent Rivers in 2021

That's not necessarily the case, just its a systemic weakness of the fixed 6-5-4-3-2-1 system that you can play well and not receive votes in good team performances and conversely receive votes for mediocre - or worse - games in lesser team performances.  Obviously also when multiple players play equally well, you have the issue that there is a massive difference between five votes and one vote when in reality there isn't such a difference in output.   Obviousy the best solution is we all score every player each week out of 10, but that obviously presents its own issues and likely isn't manageable.  But in terms of Rivers, he plays well but is probably our 12th, on average, best player each week.  In this system, thats of no value unfortunately.

I was going to say that both Rivers and Jordon have constantly been in my 7-12 bracket, but their best games have also correlated with strong games from others.

I'm confident they'll both be recognised in the bnf,  which rates each game from each player, so there aren't a finite set of scores.

Is Daniel Cross still involved with the club in some capacity?

Despite our two Christians, perhaps this is the year we Cross the River Jordan to the ultimate triumph and glory.

(I know there are some spelling anomalies there, but I always try to overlook such minor mistakes.  :D)

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
