Ah, the '90s, when I rusted my three '80s-born kids onto the Dees (for which they don't always thank me...)!

Jako's 8 were in R1 in an 11-goal dominance of eventual grand finalists, Geelong (we fell to premiers, West Coast, all 3 times, however...) He had 4 against the Hawks, as did do-we-remember-him-30-gamer Greg Doyle.

8 goals for A.Jakovich

Pretty sure he kicked something like 4 goals 10 behinds that day. Missed an absolute sitter from just outside the goalsquare then minutes later dobbed one from 50 out on the boundary.

Twas there that day. We had come down from the Mallee to the big smoke mostly to see Collingwood vs. Carlton. The old man was also going to see the Saints and Roos with one of his mates, but since I never really got a chance to see the Demons play, Mum talked him into taking me out to Waverley to see this game. Shame we were staying in bloody North Melbourne at the time. I'm sure the old fella wasn't impressed with the 3 hour round trip! ?

Jaka was his enigmatic self. I remembered one shot where I think he missed from 10 out running into goal, and then threaded another from an impossible angle from the boundary.

Another highlight of that trip was the Blues vs. Pies game as that was when Mick McGuane did his famous run and goal. That was worth the price of admission, but more so was the end of the game. The Pies got up and we were sitting near Jack Elliott's corporate box. He was foolish enough to emerge after the final siren and he didn't look impressed. Say what you will about Collingwood, but the reception that boorish private school bully got from them was truly glorious. ?

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
