To play devils advocate cant really deny we have a bunch of butchers in our midfield and Melksham is the only one who reliably makes the right decision and executes forward of centre (when he shows up).

Its not a list of our best players (which he isnt) but yea given our awful delivery into 50, hes pretty important cause he essentially carrying the efficiency inside 50.

Fwiw, at his career at Melbourne.. when he has

>  5 inside 50s we are 10-4

<  2 inside 50s we are 7-14

Melksham and Lever were deputy vice captains so leadership is why they are so high.

So your not basing it on ability at all. I wouldn't have Melksham in the seniors.

I can understand the rationale behind Melksham behind 3rd on the list as kicking is the single most important component of football, and Melksham setting up someone for a shot on goal is a thing of beauty.

However he was so poor this year that one wonders if he’ll even get a regular game next year.

Pretty close to the only bloke who can kick left and right

Not all of them I base it on what I think the coaches want too. Like Spargo and Hunt are rated higher because they got a 2 year contract while Jones, Smith and Hore only got one while vandenBerg, Neal-Bullen and McDonald were rated even lower because they were shopped around.

1. Petracca

2. Oliver

3.  May

4.  Gawn

5. Ben Brown

Huge gap after that

Langdon?

Benny Brown is a big piece of the puzzle for us. He's No. 1 most important player for us next year imv. We're much more likely to have a successful year if he wins the Coleman than if Petracca wins the Brownlow.

  • PREVIEW: North Melbourne

Can you believe it? After a long period of years over which Melbourne has dominated in matches against North Melbourne, the Demons are looking down the barrel at two defeats at the hands of the Kangaroos in the same season. And if that eventuates, it will come hot on the heels of an identical result against the Gold Coast Suns. How have the might fallen? There is a slight difference in that North Melbourne are not yet in the same place as Gold Coast. Like Melbourne, they are currently situated in the lower half of the ladder and though they did achieve a significant upset when the teams met earlier in the season, their subsequent form has been equally unimpressive and inconsistent.

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.
