Player Wages & List Sizes in 2021

Featured Replies

AFL players will have their wages cut by only 3.5 per cent for the 2021 season.

Reports from across the industry on Wednesday afternoon suggest there will be a nine per cent decrease in the Total Player Payments (TPP) in 2021, but the decrease in list sizes softens the cut.

Players who signed a deal after the mid-year contract freeze will see no wage reduction.

List sizes have also been confirmed, with list sizes reduced from between 38 and 47 to between 37 and 44.

A maximum of 38 players on the senior list, down from 40 this year. Teams will only have to select one player in this yearโ€™s draft if they wish.

The salary cap is expected to return to normal in 2022.

75 per cent of the playing group will have to approve the deal for it to pass.

From the article:

"Players contracted beyond 2021 will have the opportunity to push up to five per cent of their salary into 2022 and 2023".ย

The AFL is actively promoting back-ending contracts and for clubs to do what has brought Coll undone - pushing money out to future years.ย

I wonder how many Coll players will take that option:ย  back ending already back ended contracts...

Does this mean we will only have 4 rookies if Bedford and Jordon sign on or will they both be rookie listed?

at this rate we will resign both on the senior list and have 4 picks at the draft with our current hand, re-rookie mbrown, lockhart and nietschke and then decide whether to re-rookie chandler too or take a rookie draft pick and then we will fill 1/2 B spots with bradtke

It is just to hard to work out. I am taking the โ€œ let me know the result when the merry go round stopsโ€ and I will look at 2021 from there. It seems like the draw for next year will be a moving fiasco. It seems like the broadcast media now run the competition. Who actually employs Gill? And by the way Gill get a haircut and shave.ย

On days like today it reminds me why my interest in AFL is sliding.ย

It's a nice little metaphor for society, reallly.

'It could have been a big hit to income but we'll soften the blow by tossing a couple of the most vulnerable people out of the boat completely.'

Righto, with that out of the way, we can get back to all being in this together.

Could not have said it so well.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourneโ€™s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time atย Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: โ€œIs Melbourne even at the ground?โ€ Moments later, as Carltonโ€™s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demonsโ€™ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.ย
