I agree with above comments totally and for awhile now I have wondered why the MFC have always given Goody a very senior assistant and wonder if it has any thing to do with their concern over his stand alone coaching ability ? Other Clubs do not appear to have the same setup as we have had in this regard.

I also feel that if Goody does not get the results the Board desire within his current contract that he will be moved on and I suspect Yze may be the next coach in waiting.  What do you think ???

Yes Goodwin has had 4 mentors now. Clearly the club believes he is not capable and are hedging their position

I cannot believe that the club gave this guy 4 years

It has the possibility of sinking the club

This is another  desperate move to cover arzes. A better move would have been to sack him and appoint a proper coach. Why wait till halfway through next season?

Agree.... Look at Richardson's role next year. It appears his chain of command is above that of Goodwin's. He will not be in "the Box" on game day and he was a failure at St Kilda... Watch this space.... Yze will be Coach in waiting and I say that because he is an accredited level 4 coach and has applied for other Teams coaching position.

Sack him! I'm sure I heard Yze use the word 'learnings' in that interview.

Listening to Yze comments on our list, it was the lines a good collection of individual talents yet to gell as a system or team (paraphrased), that caught my attention.

I think we have assembled the pieces/players, from which to construct a top 4 team, we now need to do it. Yze's role (and Goodwin's) seems to now be focused on bringing it all together into a team... team rules, game plan, culture, leadership, coaching all combining to delive a team.

That Goodwin wanted Yze last year, shows he's been aware of the issue and challenge that he's looking for Adem to assist with.

Really positive development.

I think we all heard it and it’s Incredibly disappointing to see it’s taking so long for the coaches and players to be able to work together for the one goal of a flag.

why are we still waiting for this 4 years later.

Super excited about Yze. Less so about Goodwin.

I think you need to look at the age of our midfield jets. It is not unusual to hear that young players learn first to fight To get a game, then sustain a spot in the team. Then they fight to make a role their own and do what I can do to win. Then they learn that its doing what’s needed for the team that’s gets you wins. Our mids are ready for that now if executed with them in the right way.

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
