Wasnt Stafford a ruckman as a player if my memory serves me correctly.

So WTF is he doing as a forwards coach.

I would rather an former experienced forward player as our forwards coach. Thought that would be a common sense move (maybe not).

The theory that you have to of been a superstar of this position to coach it is a furphy.

Seems like drastic compromises everywhere.

Co-GM's doesn't sound right. Mahoney will be desperate to get out of the club now.

Richo gets taken away from hands on coaching which should be his bread and butter and put in to a decision making role which requires an analytical mind which I don't really think suits him.

Surely the ideal structure is 1 person who can administer everything then having the right people with a variation of skills around them.

Get a list manager who's great at managing contracts. Get a recruiting team that can recruit. Get a coaching team that can coach. Get a footy admin team that can make sure the boots and shined and the bills are paid.

I'm going to have an uneducated guess here. Maybe if you call Mahoney the GM of facilities and List Management he doesn't fall under the soft cap. He could end up doing basically the same job as before but outside the cap. Richo could also end up doing basically the same job but probably in the cap. It doesn't say if he will have a match day coaching role.

I'd say that this part of his job would have to come in as footy department work. Although how the AFLW and VFL/W work applies to AFL cap I wouldn't know.

Josh will continue to oversee our List Management strategy and be responsible for the financial management of our soft cap and salary cap for AFL and AFLW.

Josh will ultimately be responsible for the AFLW, VFLW and VFL program strategy and will be based at our administration offices in the MCG.

Where as this part might not be

Quote

Josh will be a key part of the government led working party for the new home base development within the MCG sports precinct. He will oversee the continued development of the Casey Fields training/administration facilities and the City of Casey commercial strategy.

So there could be something too that but overall I think it's moving Mahoney sideways to get a more experienced football person making strategy decisions. But not a more experienced person in the role. Perhaps the best we could do given the circumstances.

Looks like Egan will stay in charge of development, which means the likely vacancies still are strategy and Casey senior coach.

Sounding like no more 'big names' and probably a few part time roles to come.

Burgess seems likely to stay now, which is great, but that's the main reason we can't bring in any more big name assistants as his salary is enormous (likely the reason the Crows backed out).

Richo is shown as 'Director of Coaching' as part of Goodwin's staff.

Yet the job description says General Manager of AFL Football Performance in which case Goodwin reports to Richardson who in turn reports to Pert.

Confusing...

Just guessing, but I think maybe they just haven't updated that part yet.

Very sloppy if that is the case.

Maybe. But let's remember we've got reduced staff on reduced hours, probably working from home, and there's a fair bit going on at the moment for them to deal with. I'm not too worried about the coaching info on the website not being instantly updated.

Just a random thought.  Jade Rawlings is no longer with the Roos as they continue to flail wildly looking for someone to blame.  He's a  Hell of a good coach.  Wonder if we can get him back to look after Casey again (assuming the spot hasn't been filled yet?  I wouldn't know)?

He's signed for 3 years as senior coach of Norwood in the SANFL.

I don't think he'd want to come back to us anyway.

Jade has found another role.

With the possibility of the Roos coach being announced soon, I wonder if we might add to our coaching panel from those that aren't successful.

We, imv have some vacancies:  Casey Coach/development (in addition to Egan), ball-movement, strategy, op analysis.  Not suggesting we would add a coach for each role.  We have yze with experience in the latter 3 but doubt he can do it all and be mid-field coach.

I think Strategy and Analysis would go hand in hand in these tighter soft cap times.

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res
