Sandringham will be playing an intra club practice game on Friday the 2nd, March at 5.30pm. The Game will be four quarters of 20 minutes, with central umpires from the VFL in charge of the game.

All supporters are welcome to attend and check out our exciting new players for 2007. There will be at least 12 Melbourne players who do not make the trip to Mount Gambier playing.

The Social Club will be open so join the supporters in the Club for a refreshing drink whilst watching the game.

Later in the week I hope to have some details of the next crop of young recruits who have joined the Zebras from the Dragons U18's.

Zebra coach Mark Williams has predicted that three or four of this year's batch of youngsters coming up from the Sandringham Dragons TAC Cup Under 18 squad could follow Shane Valenti's lead and earn a senior VFL place in 2007.

The lightly built Tomi Johnston joins his brother Mark at the club. They are the sons of former Carlton star Wayne Johnston. Monaghan was a Victorian Metro Under 18 representative last year and there are some big wraps for Zarra as well.

In other news, the loss of promising midfielder Daniel Corp to Frankston has been confirmed but the Zebras may retain the exciting Mark Corrigan who was unlucky to miss out in making last year's premiership team.

No, Martyn has stayed put. Looking very trim and with no injuries. Could be a big year for the kid.

Thats a good group of players the Zebras have picked up from Sandy. Suppose the Dragons not having a heap of draftees was beneficial to the Zebras anyway.

Byron Pickett - stayed on the ground for the whole game (well, I left with about 5 minutes to go) and was the least impressive of the four. Didn't find a lot of the ball and wasn't all that impressive when he did. He got some exercise though and probably found it hard to get worked up playing against Sandy 1st and 2nds players.

Heath Neville - had a close look at him for the first time really. He's pretty aggressive, likes to get involved and got a bit of dash. Played on Poyas and Valenti, so they gave him a job. Quite liked his game in a quiet sort of a way. Not outstanding but one of those players who might just progress. But nothing to get excited about.

Shane Neaves - best ruckman on the ground in amongst the amateurs. Really did look good at this level. He's a good long kick, reads the play well and is quite good below his knees. Speed is the problem at the higher levels. Dominated his position as he should have.

Michael Newton - started at FF, lovely lead, pass, goal in the first and got a little bit involved. But the more interesting thing was in the second half when he moved to a wing. He dominated. Picked up kicks at will, marked, kicked goals and showed beautiful disposal on each side of his body. And I'm talking really good disposal. Took the trademark hanger in the last half and cramped having run himself into the ground. He's not an inside player at all, but he found the ball and space really easily, was poised when he got it and at one stage ran half the length of the ground bouncing it 4 or 5 times. Having said that I'm not sure how he'd go if someone stood next to him as his opponent didn't go near him all half.

Isaac Weetra was in the stand looking as was the Russian and Bucks.

So Newton can run as well as mark, Fan . Pretty promising!! Trouble is, he won't get a chance at FF because of Sauts. Is he big enough to hold down CHF? Running and creating is the big requirement at CHF, as well as marking. You do have to go in and get the ball, there, though, and from what you say, that's not his forte.

And you have got to be kidding. That's is the most biased opinion I've read in my life.

To put it bluntly Neville did nothing, Neaves was not the best ruckman - he got worked in the tap-outs by the amateurs. Juice got in to the game late but let a few easy marks go and Byron was just there, floating around. I don't think ND would be too worried about how he went yesterday, he just needs that match fitness.
