At what point does continually saying "no one is talking about Melbourne because they are irrelevant" lose all of its meaning by the very act of continuing to say "no one is talking about Melbourne because they are irrelevant"?

The paradox is obviously lost on the media.

If we were relevant:

  • we wouldn’t sell games to the NT
  • we would have a home base
  • we would not allow GCS to get picks 1 and 2 this year.
  • scrutiny would have been applied at round 6, not 20
  • we would get a fair go or even an armchair ride from the umps

’nuff said?

Yep!!

Caro had Bartlett and the MFC of 2019 squarely in her sights tonight:

They did an extra minute or so analysis on Saturday night's game amongst other things that we have all heard before which aren't included here...I'll try to dig that up.

NB: It's now a well accepted fact that Caro does not frequent DL.

Who cares, the only arrow I'd be concerned about is a Xavier Duusma arrow after he's kicked a goal against us or an Adam Goodes spear. I didn't even realise channel 9 still broadcast.

The media are extremely selective in what they push or ignore.

For example, a missed free or goal in an Essendon or Pies game, gets more coverage than some major world events do. When you are down or not a big club, what happens to you will be largely ignored. As an example, I re watched the Freo game and in the last quarter Roos and Dwayne must have mentioned the Dockers being 2 men down at least 20 times, to justify us being a chance of winning, yet in the Blues game when we were 3 down, it was mentioned once in the last quarter as I recall. Poor umpiring is highlighted against the bigger clubs and ignored against the smaller ones. We got 3 frees paid and an out on the full in the first half against the Tigers, who got 12 frees, but it was not mentioned, even though several decisions were blatantly wrong.

That is what is meant when people like Caro say we are irrelevant. We actually don't stand up for ourselves and highlight it in the media, say at after match press conferences, like the bigger clubs do. They use the media to push the argument, we don't.

On the other hand, winning changes a lot.

The media are a funny lot, having a go at us ( fair enough we suck ) but bringing up about how Richmond at the end of 2016 had the potential for two board challengers and no one cares at Melbourne. What a crock, if where in the same place next year I bet there will be challengers lining up the board and then you watch Caro come out with its so destabilising it’s going to cost the club so much money it’s not what the club needs it’s so Melbourne.

I feel it’s fair to say we have been rubbish for so long had one ok year and back down the bottom of the ladder again that other clubs, media and other supporters just feel that’s where we belong. Welcome back Saturday and Sunday early and twilight games with little talk about us. Until we have a minimum five years in a row playing finals and challenging I can’t see people outside of Demons fans ever changing their thoughts about us really.

This year has been an unmitigated disaster of the biggest proportions, thank goodness it’s nearly over bring on 2020 it simply can’t be this bad again.

Journos are just [censored] off we're not imploding and giving them more fodder for the daily rags. So if we don't give them a story they will create one

when sides are winning and their in the 8- they are relevant, when sides are losing and their not in the 8, they are irrelevant  that happens to every single Club even Richmond when they are down the bottom and Carlton.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
