I haven't been a Tomlinson fan post his ACL, but you could see that his presence allows for Lever and May to fly for contested marks.

But more importantly, our list profile would start to look dire if we lost Hibberd, Melksham, Grundy, Dunstan, Tomlinson, BBB, T Mac all in one hit.

I totally understand why the club deem Tomlinson as a required player.

Halle [censored] lujah

Maybe the penny has dropped at MFC

Hope to see Tomlinson as regular starting KPD especially if Petty's somewhat successful experimental swingman thing turns into a regular event

I'm not Tommo's biggest fan. Reckon his form has been patchy this season. Pushed TDK in the back for carltons 2nd goal. Lost him for the first goal. Trailed behind his man most of the night. Slow and immobile. I understand we need the 3rd tall to free up Lever but can disco play this role instead?

If that’s a push in the back I give up on football.

Agree 100% - one of several times when the Blues conned the maggots.

On what planet would we trade Petty for McAdam? One is out of contract and 28 years old. One is contracted for TWO MORE YEARS and is a 23 year old key position star.

I suggest Tomlinson staying is more to do with Petty playing forward permanently and us needing another experienced big bodied defender. We would get absolute peanuts for Tomlinson which is a crying shame. He has a role to play.

He also played some ruck at GWS which might be handy now Grundy is gone

Schache is the obvious option in the short term for that until Verral comes on (If he does).

That's the reason i figured he was re-signed.  Security in the short term for Max and occasional chop out late in a game if played as sub.

At least that's what i thought until Friday night.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
