We have no leaders in our back six. We have Frost and OMac who spend a lot of time looking like they don't know what they're doing. At times we've had Hore, KK and J Wagner down there who weren't part of our winning team last year and are either new to the game or new to our system. And we have Hibberd and Jetta who are nowhere near in form.

All of that means I think we'd benefit, significantly, from having Lewis in the backline.

Isnt Jetta in our leadership group? i get the out of form part.. but he was put in because he is a leader. Love Nev but he aint doing much leading, neither is Max and neither is Jones.

Spirit is lacking, we dont have what teh Lions have, we dont have what the Dogs have, we dont even have what teh Suns have and yet we made a prelim final last year.

Jordan Lewis is not the difference.. and if we think he is we are doomed.

Lewis is absolutely not the play he once was, but with no runners on the ground and our general lack of experience and leadership he may well be more important on the ground then ever.

good point and correct he will be a help with that aspect, but the fact we need him to be that person is an indictment on our coaches and our senior leadership team.

I don't care who holds the title of being a "leader" because they're in the leadership group. I care about those who actually assist our younger players when they're out there on game day.

Lewis, for all his weaknesses, does that, and right now I think we need his ability to guide the headless chooks we have out there.

The guy we really seem to be missing is the one in the pink clothes who was always running around giving out good advice.

"If you get between the ball and your opponent, defending is much easier"

"Stand over there, somewhere near your opponent. It will help."

"See how your opponent is always getting his hands on the ball? Now you try it."

"Now try getting it to another Melbourne player. You can kick OR handpass it. Your choice! If you can get it to one who is on his own, that's even better."

That guy was really good. I wonder what ever happened to him?

The wisdom is missing at the moment. Love the fundamental approach, coz it ain't no good being where the ball ain't. There are certain triggers in our game that our players struggle to identify so a fella like that (despite the pink) is a good investment.

When Lewis arrived, I just saw 'Coach' in my mind. He'd be terrific at that for the MFC.

When's he due back?

Sydney, St Kilda or Richmond?

He can only be hidden in the small confines of the SCG.

Otherwise for me, farewell game v. Hawks.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
