I was at the game after 12 hours of travelling ... Watts was reliable and effective for Port - Watts' foot skills we missed by the Dees and felt by the Dees under pressure - Watts did some great things in the heat of the backline (theirs) during in-comings (ours) and losses of possession (ours) - in fact, Watts just played his game and did it very well - marked well, spoiled well, ran to position well, cleared well, absorbed the efforts of the Weed and TMac including the Dees' smalls, teamed-up with his new teammates yet did nothing exceptional, nothing that we had not seen for years - I think that underneath, we all knew he'd be a loss.

we ended up getting fritsch for watts. I don't know about you but I would take fritsch any day of the week and I think most other dees fans would. (bear in mind Watts had one good game, and he was basically non-existent for Port last year)

I was still sad to see the back of watts, (thought he was finally becoming a good footballer through 2017) however again, fritsch seems to bring more to the table.

So i take it there is absolutely no point in watching what transpired today. Thank god we won our Cricket Semi final today.

Is this the Reality check we needed?

Hopefully the reality check we needed to have (sort of paraphrasing Paul Keating)

I was hoping for a win last Saturday and got what I suspected.

This week I am hoping we don't get a belting.

  • THE STATS FILES: St. Kilda

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
