Jetta: Unfinished Business

Featured Replies

Max said a similar thing at the Best an Fairest but I love that quote.

“You can’t win premierships early in the season, but you can definitely lose them. We’re doing everything we can to be able to set ourselves up and give ourselves the opportunity again

Neville's interview is from 33 mins 50 secs.

Two things

1. I said to him the other day

'you played well the other day in the praccy match at Casey on Saturday'

Nev 'I have to if I want to keep my place in the team, even at training'

How times have changed

2. His comments re fitness and rehab, what I have been saying

I wish Neitz had said we had unfinished business on the GF dais in 2000 instead of hoping we could get back there one day and give it another crack.

Neita was another... just too nice.  too often.

Not enough mongrel.  often enough.

Our club shrank away from that game,  and the Bummers club...  as we did with the Hawks club.

.

There were a couple of sliding door moments early in that game that I wonder if they had've gone our way if things would've been different.
Captain Nietz took a couple of strong marks close to goal within the 1st few minutes of that game when it was at its hottest.
Kicked 2 points.
Ball goes up the other end, Essendon captain Hird takes a mark around CHF.
Kicked truly and they were away with their tails up.
Also the fact that we seemed totally unprepared for the physical onslaught that was dished out to our young players early.
We should have been prepared for this as they had beaten us up for the previous 6-8 years.
And this was a GF.
Anyhoo, lets hope its us with the mongrel for the next 10 years.

Best small backman in the AFL,  should be an All Australian but thats another story.

This.. is IT in a nutshell.

It's a fn Grand Final.   Not a fn pantomime.

We were nowhere near prepared...  to be mean and nasty enough, for a Grand Final.

  • THE STATS FILES: St. Kilda

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
