Have read two rumours. One is that players were forced into a fake hostage situation, with "terrorists" ambushing their bus and holding players at gunpoint.

Another scneario, revealed by Damian Barrett tonight on FC, involved some kind of nighttime hunter/predator chase through a forest, which left players bewildered and confused.

The whole thing sounds utterly bizarre.

None of those sound like appropriate team building exercises to a football team to me

Only if you are in the running for the brownlow, otherwise its a suspension and AFL will appeal......

well, do you really want to see players (regardless of brownlow aspirations) lose games for minor inconsequential umpire touching. in most cases being fined guilty of misconduct and fined seems appropriate

the only one of the recent charges that had a serious element to it was hawkins who appeared to lose his temper (then backed off). he rightly got referred to the mrp

no doubt though the processes and commentary we have seen recently have been a bit vaudevillian

All I want to see is a simple set of rules that is fair to every player, not different rules for different players.

While on the face of it, it does seem over-the-top for players to be rubbed out for 'minor inconsequential umpire touching', I don't think it's simple where to draw the line.  At what point DC do you think it should become more than a fine?

Eg, apparently the AFL now (suddenly) considers showing the umpire how someone was pushed is a fine  (and will change the rules at year's end, while not enforcing it now). But presumably showing the umpire how someone had their head pulled off and spun to the ground is still a suspension.

So the AFL/Tribunal will as usual have to make decisions on each case.  If only they could do it without many of us being suspicious as to the motivations for their inconsistencies, particularly wiht 'stars'.  If they keep on their current course I'll need therapy to overcome my growing cynicism.

Anyone have any idea how Dusty gets a fine for an ump push and Curnow get a week for an ump push?

Maybe the AFL forgot to tell everyone that the system used actually involves a points formula where the last step in the process is to multiply the points by ladder position to get a final number.

The Brownlow has become meaningless to me sadly...

As a kid it was a huge award, but ever since Dipperdethuggero won it in ‘86 i have taken little notice.

Dustin Martin is a ball player, but he still gets an armchair ride.

Is the one arm fend off actually legal, or does no one really know?

Max Gawn constantly gets frees paid against for his one armed fend off, it's one of his biggest issues that he is working on.

Meanwhile Martin is able to use it as an attaking part of his game repeatedly

i agree it is hard to frame the rules for those situations that are not overtly violent, threatening or aggressive. a bit of common sense needs to be applied but that still wouldn't satisfy anyone. maybe the option of 2 levels of fines for the minor stuff with the more serious stuff clearly defined and sent straight to the mro

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

    TRAINING: Wednesday 11th December 2024

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
