Certainly without so many injuries to so many key players, some of which were early  in crucial games, we just have to get more wins.

And IF we had a dream run injury wise as did The Toiges then who knows?  Continuity helps a hell of a lot.

OMG ....... and who will be the new whipping boy on these fora?

In these times of equality Mono, I think a whipping girl would add some balance.

If Essendon play off in a GF before we do I give up!  That will be my personal breaking point after waiting over 50 years.

This. I wouldn’t bother even watching it unless Melbourne were playing. I think they’re  a possibility too.

On a side note, I spent last Xmas with an Essendon supporting family and the football conversation was absolutely sickening. They strongly believed the Bombers had done no wrong, that the AFL and general football community conducted a witch hunt against Essendon. When Hird came up, I had to politely excuse my self to the toilet due to my blood pressure rising. I kept my mouth shut because it was their party.

Big article in Age today about the two goliaths of Vic footy being the big contenders this year!!!, Sum it up by saying it's about brown paper bags versus Mitch's favorite arm movement. So no hope for us this year fellas..........we'll see.....

Cannot see much reason for substantial improvement by Essendon (7th at best) but I would expect Carlton to improve to around 10-12. Collingwood could drop off quickly and finish around 14-17. (Interesting to see if they play Moore down back and then make the big play for Lynch at years end.)

Hawthorn and St Kilda are hard to pick as are the Eagles. Each could end up anywhere between 6 and 12.

GWS, Adelaide , Swans will definitely feature in the 8 somewhere. Probably Geelong also because of home ground advantage.

Freo , Gold Coast, North and Brisbane for the bottom four.

Leaves Richmond, MFC, Port, and Bulldogs fighting  it out (along with the Hawks, Saints and Eagles) for the four remaining places in the 8

The absolute key to the season is beating the bottom 4 whoever they maybe. To state the obvious two losses to North will almost finish our chances.

So unless you count Richmond as a definite there are 8 teams fighting for four spots in the 8.

Have the feeling that 2018 is going to be a "long" season.

Yep, perhaps i should have waited for draw, and who it favours, and who Gil goes fishing with. Whose turn apart from ours could it possibly be.......

Watch Richmond fall down. There is no way  they can get that run with injuries again, they had 2 players on their injury list going into the finals, not one of there 6 best players missed much football if any at all, our 6 most important players missed huge chucks of game, gwan 12 weeks, Jones 6 weeks viney played with a sore foot all year until it snapped, hogan missed most if the year, take Dustin out for the last 4 rounds like viney and they don't make top 4.

....and add in their bloody suspensions that didn't happen, and they wouldn't have been in the eight too......

  • PREVIEW: Sydney

The two teams competing at the MCG on Sunday afternoon have each traversed a long and arduous path since their previous encounter on a sweltering March evening in Sydney a season and a half ago. Both experienced periods of success at various times last year. The Demons ran out of steam in midseason while the Swans went on to narrowly miss the ultimate prize in the sport. Now, they find themselves outside of finals contention as the season approaches the halfway mark. The winner this week will remain in contact with the leading pack, while the loser may well find itself on a precipice, staring into the abyss. The current season has presented numerous challenges for most clubs, particularly those positioned in the middle tier. The Essendon experience in suffering a significant 91-point loss to the Bulldogs, just one week after defeating the Swans, may not be typical, but it illustrates the unpredictability of outcomes under the league’s present set up.

  • REPORT: Brisbane

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.

  • PREGAME: Sydney

Just a game and percentage outside the Top 8, the Demons return to Melbourne to face the Sydney Swans at the MCG, with a golden opportunity to build on the momentum from toppling the reigning premiers on their own turf. Who comes in, and who makes way?
