Arrived a little early... Rehab group already out on the paddock, with Don Tyson joining the regulars. Tyson, Hibberd, Big Mac and Melksham kicking in pairs on the lead with Crossie overseeing them. Viney on straight sprints, Vanders on fast laps, King mixing it up. The whole group arrived with Watts looking like a former Brisbane Brownlow medalist!

Viney leaves the track early, Hogan jogs off for a wiss! Stretch, Kent & Petracca on triangular handball duties. Main group in warm up with footballs

The rehabs do some goal kicking. Harry not spotted yet. Big Max seems to be wearing number 34

Haven't spotted Lewis or Garland yet. Main group rotating through agility and quick spread handball & kicking at the moment. Melksham and Hibberd running hard laps

Thanks for reports. Is Big Mac Tom McDonald, Oscar McDonald or Max Gawn?

Edit: Voss, Akermanis or Black?

We need our players to be ' Hungrier' :P

Full oval kicking to lead and running on at top pace now. A lot to like here. The skip is tearing it up. Bernie is fit and chomping the bit. ANB gets a crack at a full preseason. Petracca urges them on from the sidelines. Ollie might be low on middle distance stuff but he remains very high with the ball in his sights!

Aker.

Jack (Aka) Watts just performed the rarest of feats... a total miss-kick! Stubbed his toe and was told to replace divot!

First time I've noticed the grooves being broadcast from the boundary during training... nice upbeat atmosphere wafting across the Paddock

  • Author

Whitey struggling against Hunt, who just took a screamer on the boundary line. The pressure on the man with the ball is very high for this time of the year

  • Author

Goodwin just congratulates White for his perfect pass to the leading Weiderman, which is good coaching for a bloke who had previously lowered his colours. Bernie and the Skip continue their brilliant ball handling and disposal

  • Author

Oscar has appeared and joins the main group, who are now gathered watching Goodwin demonstrate a specific play

Any sign of Lewis??

Oscar wearing number 37 maybe makeshift. Joel Smith continues to impress with speed and delivery.

Just noticed Ollie sitting on the grass watching... I'll keep an eye on him The competive, half ground ball movement continues... several looking a bit worn out now

Hopefully not Brad Hardie....

Oscar running laps, beautiful left foot pass from Wagner to Watts, Goodwin barking instructions, Hogan lots of deft touches by foot

  • Author

Jetta smooth and clean as usual, doesn't mind putting a bit of body pressure on the youngsters either. Jones enjoying a stint as the deep goal kicker Brayshaw also doing well

Love what I'm hearing wayne.  Keep up the great work.

My two hour car park under the bridge is running low so I'll be leaving soon. They have broken into 3 groups now. Ollie walking around still out of the action All groups doing versions of handball under pressure

  • Author

Misson blows the whistle and the groups rotate. Watts & Bernie running the. Lindsey now. "Keep going boys, keep going" is the catchcry of all coaches. Frost also taking time-out on the fence

  • Author

The activity that Rooke is vouching is hard work, with lots of tackling and tough body work Ollie is wandering back to main group and Macca had a word to him Maybe he took a hit in an earlier activity

  • Author

Lots of goalkicking, on the run and snapshots happening now Watts, Vince and Oscar walk to the van JKH doing laps at a good pace. Ollie still sitting on his butt close to the main group I'm signing off now. Cheers

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

  • REPORT: Richmond

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
