Decent variety of sports in there Wadda and like @Macca said, we can always go to the bullpen if we strike out early, pun intended.?

I just got $106 boosted on Laddies.  If BM comes in with the late mail I'll add them on to the 6 for the big payday for a small outlay.  As it stands we can use the picks any way we want just like it is with the best bets on the horses.

We can even incorporate a few sports best-bets with our racing best-bets

Lots of options now fellas.

Best Sports Bets:

New York Yankees  -1.5  ($1.95) vs Texas Rangers

Houston Astros  -1.5  ($1.95) vs Seattle Mariners

Click on the links for the match previews ... the Yankees game starts at 9.00am Saturday AEST whilst the Astros game starts at 10.00am Saturday AEST.  If you've got cable ESPN will have both games highlighted on 'Strike-Zone' (from 9am)

So it's over to @Dee Zephyr  and perhaps even  @binman  to complete the package!  An 8 leg multi?  I've landed 2 pick 7's and 1 pick 8 previously but it's been a while haha.

Best of luck to all the punters on the weekend.

I cant seem to find Houston Astros game on Brokelads Macca? Can you see it??

Good work Fellas.

I always find the 'Tips from the big Bookies' from Racenet.com a good read and pointer for Saturday.  Their 'Best' is always worth noting especially if the odds aren't too prohibitive.

They always feature on a particular race and tomorrow's focus is on the 'Aurie's Star Hcp' ... of course,  we've got Voodoo Lad racing as one of our best bets but it's sure to be a keenly contested race down the straight at headquarters.

I totally agree Macca. Voodoo is good, dont worry about that........................But, when champions race, they nearly always have to beat other champions in order to become legends. To me a lot of it is backing your gut feel. Youve seen em race before, you know what they can do. Are they gonna do it today? We know, we will win if they do.

To me ....thats the mystery of the punt and ....................thats why i watch.

(after all we are Melbourne supporters, and.. we can handle it). :)

Good luck today you guys......one of these days.........

It's why I prefer trifecta's with regards to the Group racing or Listed Races ... thanks for reminding me Wadda as for the last month I've been doing win-only bets by following certain tipsters (Gator,  JJ,  Hutchy et al)  I've done reasonably well with the win bets but the trifecta's can deliver the decent dividends.

I know you like your quaddie's but they are not really my thing ... I prefer to have a chance at a collect in any given race.  Was thinking similar with our best sports bets except there's not much of a return singularly.  But a random treble within the 6 picks can provide odds of about 8-1 up to 12-1.  Just gotta get the right 3 ?

Yep. I always look and say....which one is going to miss, then do a few other combos.

Baseball is hit and miss but as a percentage play,  it's not too bad DZ.  On another day both teams could have both won well.  For me Rugby league is way harder and soccer is also hit and miss and I'd rather leave the footy to others.

Rugby union and the NBA are my preferred options so I'll stick to baseball until the Rugby Internationals return and when the NBA starts up.  I've used a couple of our 'live' sports best bets with a few short priced favourites with the horses so all is not lost.

As previously noted,  losing out on a well priced multi isn't costly if the stake is quite low.  And I only do a couple/few of them so it's low risk.

Its n dramas...just an experiment and good to pass the time between races actually......ill be reloading and trying some place bets in as well...

I agree Macca. In baseball there’s no worrying about the tie as extra innings count to the end result. I’ll continue with the line bets in the MLB also. Sorry, I didn’t mean it to sound bad, you win some, you lose some.

Soccer is impossible to predict sometimes but for some reason I persist with it.

My best footy bets:

Gold coast v tigers game to be over the Total Match Point (TMP) of 167.5

Comment: will be a low to no pressure game and the tigers will score easily and not be too fussed about giving GC some cheapies. I would set the line at 175 so goo value

GWS to make their line of 15.5 v Crows

Comment: Crows have nothing left to play for and players will to want to get injured. GWS have everything to play for and need a win to shore up a top 4 spot. Crows also coming off a high pressure derby. Good value

Other's to consider if looking for multis (which i don't): Brisbane line of 25.5 looks tempting as they are in pretty good form and i reckon the dogs v bulldogs TMP of 178.5 is too short given there won't be much pressure and the roos to make their line of 22.5 is also good value given the dogs are limping to the line and roos want/need percentage

It was a good pick Macca. Everyone liked it, great price looked like it had the race , then beaten by the bolter...how unusual for us! Bet it wins its next race!

Next cab off the rank Mongolian Wolf. I have it in a few things...

Ace High trialed with Winks during the week, ran third, he is racing against Winks next week. The trainer said he will keep it in Sydney for a while because it’s a handful on the road. It’s being set for the Caulfield/Melbourne Cup Double.

Yep Wadda,  same here (re Mongolian Wolf)

At this time of year I'd rather post up a horse with some value attached rather than a short priced favourite that may not salute anyway.  And there's been a stack of shorties go down in the last 2 or 3 months.

In the Spring it's a different story ... when Spring arrives we can confidently nominate a group level horse and still get reasonable odds about that horse.  I like to bet all year round but will up the ante during the carnivals.  For now,  it's just a few interest bets without risking too much.

So did I but I wasn't confident ... first time down the straight and the horse never really let go.  I'm happy I didn't back it straight out (which I never really do anyway with horses that are that short)

The horse copped a bit of a check and David Hayes just mentioned that Gold Mag needs it further anyway - more hindsight info hey! ?

However,  it's another one to watch and the odds will probably be better next time.

Did the Jock take off too late there DZ? Seemed to wait till the 400m.....what a run!

It was always the risk Wadda. As mentioned previously the horse has settled well back in its last few starts and has been motoring home late, possibly too late. I thought after the claim and the soft track the horse would overturn its fortunes.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
