Always nice to back the first winner of the day (a bonus 50 on winnings too!)

And worth following is 'Tokorangi' too - impressive winner

Off-season Group racing always keeps up the interest

2 races tomorrow that standout ... I like Daisies (and Mamounia for a bit of value) in the Aust Oaks as well as Count de Rupee in the Victory Stakes (Niccanova for the exotics)

Was out all day, had a few small bets but mostly stayed off. Got some big purchases in the coming weeks so I’ll be scaling it right back.will try and stay on top of what’s going on so I’m not totally lost coming back 😂

And I've had 2 very prosperous weekends so I'm all in!!  Be good if it was like this all the time!  Even got a roughie up at Hawkesbury (Exotic Ruby) and that is rare.  I generally don't ever back roughies!

So next weekend we've got the Sangster & the Hollindale.  Both races are sure to attract very good fields and both could end up being good betting races

Big day at Eagle Farm tomorrow - Super Saturday!!

3 Group races from the washed out Doomben races added to this Saturday's Eagle Farm card so we end up with 3 x G1, 2 x G2 & 4 x G3 and a listed race.  10 races in all

Excellent fields and some very good betting races - value aplenty

A perfect lead in to our game vs Freo

Good luck if you're having a wager

I’m out for the day, so might just punt my black bookers, but yeah should be a good day. Hope the tracks not too heavy.

Soft5 now and improving ... very little rain predicted and Eagle Farms drains well

Could be a Good4 at best so it doesn't look like we'll get a heavy track

Had a small wager on Polly Grey but Polly likes it wet ... how far Zaaki?!

Polly is in my black book, I love grey horses for some reason 😂

Time-honoured Stradbroke on tomorrow - wide open race and the exotics could pay anything ... punting that way could be a lot easier than finding the winner! (If luck is on your side)

And then we've Royal Ascot beginning next Tuesday evening with 3 Aussie horses competing

Tuesday 14th June - King's Stand St.  1000m (Nature Strip)

Saturday 18th June - Jubilee Stakes 1200m (Nature Strip, Home Affairs & Artorius)

All days covered on the racing channel (or racing.com)

@Macca

I like Eleven Eleven, has a terrific finishing burst, but I’m not overly confident it will win. Like you said all the value will be in the exotics…will try my luck there for sure.

Got Eleven Evelen included in a wide exacta!

The exacta is my default bet if I'm flummoxed, DZ!

Alligator Blood drew the car park next to the car park next to the the track

Same deal for Alligator, Gorg (exacta)

But the lightweights might feature ... any of Brooklyn, Isotope & Vilani could get into the finish

Good luck today punters, if you're having a flutter!

Haven’t had a winner all day but was on this at $13!!!

Good on ya!

I missed the exacta as I only had AB in for 2nd in an exacta ... ugh!

Scored 4 winners at Morphettville today though, so it's been a reasonable day

F4 in the Straddy paid $25k!

And apart from the up & coming 'Isotope' (which had drawn well and was only carrying 52.5kgs) the other 3 had won at G1 level

Anyway, there is a huge meeting at Belmont Park (New York) later on tonight ... 8 x G1 races with some high quality fields

I fancy most of the favoured horses so a few small outlay multi's might bring a decent return ... got a handy double up (G3 & G1) last night in the warm up meeting at Belmont Park

Ideal lead into Royal Ascot starting Tuesday

So all the overseas form, odds & tips can be found at www.racingpost.com

  • 1 month later...

A number of the good horses return on Saturday ... 4 Stakes races at Caulfield with the highlight race being the G2 PB Lawrence Stakes (R8)

A decent betting race for a small field too - any of the 9 runners can win the race

I’m in Czechia at the moment so might try and watch a replay, should start ramping up in the next few weeks.

First G1 of the new season at Randwick Saturday (Winx Stakes)

Good field assembled but nearly all the runners are back from a spell ... Anamoe is the class runner in the race but noted frontrunners Profondo, Hinged & Forbidden Love should be leading for a lot of the race

Might be one for the exotics only ... trifecta might pay well with the right combo

9 Stakes races to be run on Saturday (Moonee Valley & Randwick)

The time honoured Feehan Stakes at the Valley should attract a top field whilst up in Sydney the Chelmsford & the Concorde will be keenly contested

Footy finals, Spring Carnival, NFL and the Baseball playoffs are about to begin.  Great time of the year especially with the Demons involved at the pointy end!

There's a couple of stakes races at Wyong tomorrow. Mona Lisa Stakes 1350m (R6) & the Wyong Gold Cup 2100m (R7)

Both look like trifecta races or maybe F4 (Exacta?) Probably 5 or 6 genuine winning chances in both races

A nice precursor for Saturday

A few points to come out of Saturday's racing

Eduardo (9yo) is just a Marvel winning the Concorde in fine style.  The other 1000m sprint (McEwan St) held at the Valley was also won well by the rejuvenated Rothfire

The experts thought the 1000m might have been a bit short but Rothfire is back in business

Zaaki won the Tramway easing down and Mr Brightside looks a Cox Plate chance after winning the Feehan well

And Aysar surprised all by winning the Chautuaqua Stakes.  The horse has talent but it's form is all over the place!!  An apt race to win, all things considered 😏

Boom 3yo Colt 'I am Caviar' started as $1.28 favourite today at Moe and ran 5th!

Deserves another chance as the breeding is a head turner ... I am Invincible & Black Caviar!

Moody was saying that I am Caviar will be a City class horse but maybe not Stakes class.  Time will tell

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.

  • GAMEDAY: West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?

  • FEATURE: 1925

A hundred years ago today, on 2 May 1925, Melbourne kicked off the new season with a 47 point victory over St Kilda to take top place on the VFL ladder after the opening round of the new season.  Top place was a relatively unknown position for the team then known as the “Fuchsias.” They had finished last in 1923 and rose by only one place in the following year although the final home and away round heralded a promise of things to come when they surprised the eventual premiers Essendon. That victory set the stage for more improvement and it came rapidly. In this series, I will tell the story of how the 1925 season unfolded for the Melbourne Football Club and how it made the VFL finals for the first time in a decade on the way to the ultimate triumph a year later.
