Nature Strip.....just wow! Love to know how many multi million dollar horses Darren Weir actually has!

And Nature Strip wins in commanding fashion ... another dead-set candidate for the Everest after that run.

Sunlight might have needed the run but the horse was outclassed if we're being honest.

Agree Macca. I thought Sunlight could beat him today but that was a clinic.

Thanks Wadda. I was recording the game.

Only kidding mate. ? They have a phenomenal knack of scoring quickly and reeling in big leads this season. Over to the Dees now.

To Gator's credit he did tip Nature Strip & Vega Magic today and that double was paying around about $3.50 early doors (with an odds boost)  I bet away from him looking for value but that didn't work! ?

Anyway,  here's the latest odds for The Everest ...

  • Trapeze Artist       4-1
  • Nature Strip          5-1
  • Vega Magic          6-1
  • Redzel                   8-1
  • Menari                  10-1
  • Kementari            10-1
  • US Navy Flag       12-1
  • Shoals                  14-1
  • Santa Ana Lane  14-1
  • Brave Smash      16-1
  • In Her Time         16-1
  • English                 20-1
  • Chatauqua          25-1
  • Invincible Star    25-1
  • Estijaab               25-1
  • Written By           25-1
  • Redkirk Warrior  40-1
  • Winx                     50-1

That's a couple of smart bankers in a multi Wadda ... good luck with the other 2 picks although I see the Rabbitohs have got a bit of work ahead.

My only other bet this weekend is in the Group 1 2400m Stakes race at Epsom just after midnight.  Cracksman is up against Poet's Word & Crystal Ocean whilst Rostropovich might get into the finish.

Should have had the Dees instead!!

Video of a couple of Group 1's from the weekend (overseas) and it's worth having another look at Vega Magic blitzing them in the Bletchingly Stakes likewise Nature Strip in the Lightning Stakes

It's also worth noting that the confirmed Cox Plate starter 'Benbatl' won a Group 1 2000m race out of Germany on the weekend as well ... the time was a tad slow but the tracks are quite often on the dead side of good in Europe so it's more about the ratings.

g'day punters,

I can feel it in the air, the unmistakable spring vibe. One of my favourite times of year. Love the couple of months before the spring carnival starts in earnest. My mate and i usually start back up on our spring campaign in mid to late August so soon now. Can't wait.

In the man time will have to content myself with the dees still being in finals contention.

I might post my bets footy bet of the round on a Friday for the last few games and finals. I like my bet now of the swans to miss the finals at $3. Had an up and won footy betting season but have made a profit so can't complain. Was well up this round coming into Sunday's game and then managed to get them ALL wrong to break even.

I would just like to wish all horseys a Happy Birthday on August 1st behalf of everyone here at Day at the Races punters club.

4 weeks till spring!

That would be great Binman. Although we made the thread mainly about horseys, i always like to post any other bet that i like across a wide range of sports. So feel free. I will certainly be having a look at your best.

Ha!  It's already all systems go for me Wadda ... the Missile Stakes to be run at Randwick on Saturday is my kind of trifecta race - a 10 horse field only but the quality is there with Kementari on top.  I fancy Showtime to run a good race first up whilst 'She Will Reign's' first up form is enormous - 4 from 4.

Yep its coming up fast !! Good luck with that one Macca. Does look to be a great field.

Since we are talking Swans binman, I had a look at the early market for our game against them. I realise the one week at time cliche but realistically speaking most of us are looking down the track ( not necessarily punt wise).

We are $1.45, Swans $2.75

If we get up this week and Swans lose our odds will reduce further in my opinion. When was the last time we were that short against the Swans?

A long time DZ. They do not have the pace to hurt us on the outside and we have them covered on contested ball, which is really the cornerstone of their 'brand 'and has been for many years.

That said 1.45 is short. But as we both know the odds are perhaps the most reliable indicator of the relative chances in any given game.

Last Friday, just before the bombers game.

I actually suggested the bet on a DL thread and advised if keen people should get on before the ess game as if they were to lose would come into about 1.80. I was pretty close!

Best bet....

Royal Randwick Race 7 No 2 Kementari $2.05

Cummings has got this horse forward. Win this and its in The Everest. First up goes well, a little short but it should be right. Get on before it comes in any more.

Best Bet:

Mooney Valley Race 8 Number 3

Trap For Fools. $2.30

Former WA galloper having fourth run in and should be hitting his straps fitness wise. Has improved each run this campaign and has some excuses in those runs.

By the look of it there’s not much pace here, the horse should be able to lead with Rawiller dictating the tactics and hopefully we see the famous dash away from rivals on the home turn.

  • PREVIEW: Brisbane

And just like that, we’re Narrm again. Even though the annual AFL Sir Doug Nicholls Round which commemorates the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture to our game has been a welcome addition to our calendar for ten years, more lately it has been a portent of tough times ahead for we beleaguered Narrm supporters. Ever since the club broke through for its historic 2021 premiership, this has become a troubling time of the year for the club. For example, it all began when Melbourne rebranded itself as Narrm across the two rounds of the Sir Doug Nicholls Round to become the first club to adopt an Indigenous club name especially for the occasion. It won its first outing under the brand against lowly North Melbourne to go to 10 wins and no losses but not without a struggle or a major injury to  star winger Ed Langdon who broke his ribs and missed several weeks. In the following week, still as Narrm, the team’s 17 game winning streak came to an end at the hands of the Dockers. That came along with more injuries, a plague that remained with them for the remainder of the season until, beset by injuries, the Dees were eliminated from the finals in straight sets. It was even worse last year, when Narrm inexplicably lowered its colours in Perth to the Waalit Marawar Eagles. Oh, the shame of it all! At least this year, if there is a corner to turn around, it has to be in the direction of something better. To that end, I produced a special pre-game chant in the local Narrm language - “nam mi:wi winnamun katjil prolin ambi ngamar thamelin amb” which roughly translated is “every heart beats true for the red and the blue.” >y belief is that if all of the Narrm faithful recite it long enough, then it might prove to be the only way to beat the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on Sunday. The Lions are coming off a disappointing draw at Marvel Stadium against a North Melbourne team that lacks the ability and know how to win games (except when playing Melbourne). Brisbane are, however, a different kettle of fish at home and have very few positional weaknesses. They are a midfield powerhouse, strong in defence and have plenty of forward options, particularly their small and medium sized players, to kick a winning score this week after the sting of last week’s below par performance.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
