Speaking of which ... 'Despatch' is running around in race 9 at Flemington

Another scratching in the race Macca so one more needed for ‘El Magnificence’ to gain a start. Mate is very excited about the horse’s prospects. ‘Despatch’ holding favouritism currently.

Didn't realise it was the same race ... we don't want to be betting against each other!!

Forget Despatch ... go El Magnificence!

Maybe a trifecta race if I'm up on the day.

No biggie Macca. If the horse does gain a run I’ll be putting a few dollars each way on it at those odds and those races down the straight can throw a few bolters in the placings. A small trifecta or first 4 wouldn’t hurt. Mate is more excited about the horse’s future.

Best Bet: Doomben Race4 No.5 Sedanzer

TAB Odds: $2.90

Scone Cup winner two starts ago and a terrific finishing effort last start to place 3rd by less than 2 lengths. Dropping 2.5kg from last run and will carry 6kg less than Ambitious. Could be the difference if the track remains heavy.

Stradbroke Trifecta Selection.

Number 15 Perast. Odds- $7.00(W) $2.70(P)

The horse has definitely found some form with 2 wins in a row. Coming in with a light weight and has to be a decent chance to run a place.

Perast will find the lead and prove mighty hard to run down. But i think will be. Just.

I know that i am supposed to wait until you all make your selections, but i'm in a bit of a bind. I have to drive to Ballarat today (to sit in cold bball stadiums - my son has a tournament there this weekend).

I've done my form and made my selctions

I'll wait for a while and just before i go check if the selections are up. If not i'll put up my analysis and tips for the race (1-4) and if for instance the winner or a place getters matches other's selections just take the horses not covered (assuming there is one)?

I'm leaving just before 12.

Drop in for a coffee~! :)

I know its a bit of an outsider, but its a great horse. Im hoping it can get into the placings.

Stradbroke Handicap trifecta selection: R5 No 5 Voodoo Lad TAB price $26.00

I like it too. Great first up record (7: 4 - 2), something i always put great stock in. Likes it soft (9: 4 - 4) and Weir really is a brilliant trainer. Above all a good racehorse

I worry that it might get too far back as i expect the race to favour those on speed and near the rail (i suspect Monstar and perst will vie for the lea, with Perast winning that mini battle)

Looks like there is 3 or 4 scratchings in the race now DZ, so El Magnifico will get a run.......$26 and $7.50 on ladbrokes

Best Bet: Doomben Race 3 No 1 Peaceful State TAB price $4.40

I'll take Santa Ana Lane in the Stradbroke.  Here's how we sit ...

Best Bets:

Doomben Race4 No.5 Sedanzer    $2.90

Belmont Race 5 No. 4 Art Series  $7.00

Doomben Race 3 No. 1 Peaceful State $4.40

Thats a total of $89.00 approx for your $1.00 Good Punting

I have also put on a multi with 'Art Series' for the place only (with Sedanzer & Peaceful State to both win)  ... paying 30-1.

In fact,  I have done a few place multi's today ... 'Heavenly Thought & Prompt Response also both offer decent odds for the place.  Might be the way to go today Wadda.

The horses i marked for this race were Champagne Cuddles (on top) from (not in order) Perast, Voodoo lad , Impending, Invincible gem.

So given we have  Perast and Voodoo Lad already so for the DL trif i am going to select:

  • Champagne Cuddles
  • Invincible gem

Impending has to be a big show and i'm sure will run well. But the weight might stop him and Invincible Gem puts some value into the trif (although there is a bit in already)

Well Macca, as you know ive always been a fan of the place all up and multi. Theres always a few good ones to be found. Those ones of yours are certainly worth including in a few multis.

I also like Youngstar at Doomben Race 7 No16. Fillie whose won 4 on the trot, taking on the boys for the first time and drops 2kg in wieght $8.00 & $2.70. I also like French Emotion $3.70 plc in race 8.

Ok,  here's our 5 picks for the Stradbroke Handicap

  • Perast
  • Voodoo Lad
  • Santa Ana Lane
  • Champagne Cuddles
  • Invincible Gem

Lots of value there so good luck with however which way your betting strategy plays out.  If any 3 of the 5 feature in the finish the trifecta is sure to pay well.

Well,  we could always put together a place card Wadda ... another weekly task!  Only joking - we're doing quite enough already.

Peaceful State put me out of my place multi but I decided to go again with the others as a saver bet.  Playing with house money as I did ok out of the 4th race at Doomben.

No idea what happened to Peaceful State...10th? Very poor run. Disappointing.

Well,  we missed with Super Cash but you can't have them all.   Whilst the lightweights stood out pre-race Santa Ana Lane was carrying 3 kgs less than its last run - and that was in a Group 1 race over 1200m.   Relished the going too.

Healthy dividends in the exotics and once again the placings were filled by the classy types.  Close but no cigar.

2 dead heats today one at Flemington and one at Morphetville. Unusual.

Great run by El Magnificence. Right up there in a big field on a chopped up track. Big watch for the next race. Only its 3rd run, still learning. If hes any good, you may have to change your name DZ to Dee Magnifico !

Haha, Wadda.

Mate said the horse had done everything right leading up to today. They weren’t too sure how it would go first-up but it was a very good return in the end. Shows a lot of ability this horse and you would think a win is not too far away.

Yeah El Magnificence ran very well didn't it DZ.  As Wadda said,  one to definitely watch.  My tip in the West 'Art Series' was disappointing but the horse had no cover in the run.

Onto Belmont Park tomorrow morning for me - I've taken a few doubles involving the Belmont Stakes and the preceding race,  the Group 1 Manhattan Stakes.  It's a pity the meeting isn't on the free-to-air station but ESPN are covering the 2 main races at least.   They like a good build up in the States - 65 minutes lead up time to both races!  That's time for 3 shouts over here.

Haha, Macca. That’s gold!

Oh yeah, the build up in all sports over there is something else. Showtime! I must admit I do enjoy some of their gimmicks, especially the projector shows on the ice in the NHL.

Is the Belmont Stakes at 8.46am tomorrow?

Yep ... coverage on ESPN starts at 7.00am and the Manhattan Stakes is on at 7.40am.  It's a step up from 1900m to 2400m for 'Justify' but I'd like to see it take out the Triple Crown.  Bravazo & Tenfold could be running on as they did in the Preakness (they finished 2nd & 3rd respectively)

  • NON-MFC: Round 10

The Sir Doug Nicholls Round kicks off in Darwin with a Top 4 clash between the Suns and the Hawks. On Friday night the Swans will be seeking to rebound from a challenging start to the season, while the Blues have the Top 8 in their sights after their sluggish start. Saturdays matches kick off with a blockbuster between the Collingwood and Kuwarna with the Magpies looking to maintain their strong form and the Crows aiming to make a statement on the road. The Power face a difficult task to revive their season against a resilient Cats side looking to make amends for their narrow loss last week. The Giants aim to reinforce their top-eight status, while the Dockers will be looking to break the travel hoodoo. The sole Saturday game is a critical matchup for both teams, as the Bulldogs strive to cemet their spot in the top six and the Bombers desperately want break into the 8. Sundays start with a bottom 3 clash between the Tigers and Kangaroos with both teams wanting to avoid the being in wooden spoon contention. The Round concludes with the Eagles still searching for their first win of the season, while the Saints look to keep their finals hopes alive with a crucial away victory. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • PREVIEW: Brisbane

And just like that, we’re Narrm again. Even though the annual AFL Sir Doug Nicholls Round which commemorates the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture to our game has been a welcome addition to our calendar for ten years, more lately it has been a portent of tough times ahead for we beleaguered Narrm supporters. Ever since the club broke through for its historic 2021 premiership, this has become a troubling time of the year for the club. For example, it all began when Melbourne rebranded itself as Narrm across the two rounds of the Sir Doug Nicholls Round to become the first club to adopt an Indigenous club name especially for the occasion. It won its first outing under the brand against lowly North Melbourne to go to 10 wins and no losses but not without a struggle or a major injury to  star winger Ed Langdon who broke his ribs and missed several weeks. In the following week, still as Narrm, the team’s 17 game winning streak came to an end at the hands of the Dockers. That came along with more injuries, a plague that remained with them for the remainder of the season until, beset by injuries, the Dees were eliminated from the finals in straight sets. It was even worse last year, when Narrm inexplicably lowered its colours in Perth to the Waalit Marawar Eagles. Oh, the shame of it all! At least this year, if there is a corner to turn around, it has to be in the direction of something better. To that end, I produced a special pre-game chant in the local Narrm language - “nam mi:wi winnamun katjil prolin ambi ngamar thamelin amb” which roughly translated is “every heart beats true for the red and the blue.” >y belief is that if all of the Narrm faithful recite it long enough, then it might prove to be the only way to beat the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on Sunday. The Lions are coming off a disappointing draw at Marvel Stadium against a North Melbourne team that lacks the ability and know how to win games (except when playing Melbourne). Brisbane are, however, a different kettle of fish at home and have very few positional weaknesses. They are a midfield powerhouse, strong in defence and have plenty of forward options, particularly their small and medium sized players, to kick a winning score this week after the sting of last week’s below par performance.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?
