They started early today because of the heat - you could always do a parlay with the rest of your tips.  Or multi it up with 1 or 2 races at Rosehill.

Some news on Dan guys. The horse has been running with a bone chip in his knee the last few runs. How that goes unnoticed is beyond me....it's been transferred out of the Carey stable and taken to Kyneton to be trained by Dean Krongold.

He will be out for a while and there's a chance we have seen the last of him.

He gave Demonland one or two good runs in the short time he was a part.

Lol, connections not too pleased at the moment, surely during track work they would have noticed something amiss with the horse. It took them four runs to realise the horse wasn't letting down properly.

Bombed out of the Quaddie mate, I had the 3,5 and added Petrology in the 3rd leg for some value.

Watching it run, we knew something was amiss, but i put it down to weight......Glad hes changed stables in that case. Pity about the quad. Think Sohool is due for a rest as well.

I added Mortons Fork in the last leg. Sohool worked hard early to get outside the leader and unfortunately couldn't find much. Oh well, the usual 3 legged Quaddie. :)

Bad luck on that quaddie fellas - wasn't a huge dividend though so that's some comfort.  You never want to go that close and miss out on 4 figures.

I've saved my bickies for Sha Tin tomorrow ... there's at least 7 horses that can get into the finish in the G1 Stewards Cup (Race 8) so it should be a great mile race.

However,  I'm not confident of getting the right combo in a trifecta in that race so will instead have a go at the G1 Centenary Sprint Cup (Race 7)

1, 2 / 1, 2, 3, 4, 8 / 1, 2, 3, 4, 8 is my preferred 2-5-5 outcome in a trifecta.  The favourite no.1 (Mr Stunning) should win but I'm hoping that the 2 (D B Pin) can beat it out to the finish.  It's only an 8 horse field but the right combo can still pay alright.

Yes, second and third.

Well thats what i like is that everyone put their 2c worth in, and we went close to a result. So thats a punters club to me. Its good practice. Lets try and snag a big quaddie over the Autumn when the pools are a bit more decent.  (822,911.00 in that pool). Yes Macca, it was a low payout, good luck tomorrow.

I like the sound of that Wadda and if we do hit a big quaddie maybe we can ask the boys in charge to start a racing podcast.:D

A lot of the feature races over the Autumn are in the Quaddie legs (both in Sydney and in Melbourne)  However,  we may end making our best bets in either City over the Carnival (which extends to 11 weekends btw) In that case a multi is applicable.

I'll do a shout out midweek to those others who have contributed previously in this thread from time to time (Toorak,  Diamond_Jim,  Clintosaurus,  ProperDee)

I reckon 5 or 6 choices is an ideal number to work from - however,  a 3 or 4 leg multi is often the better workable maximum.  You can't get too greedy with these sorts of things.

Regardless,  I reckon we'll snag our fair share of collects.

Sounds good Macca.

Hopefully a few more get on board.

You might end up with more than one person nominating the same horse as their " Best", which kind of makes the decision of including it in the multi a bit easier.

Anyway, we'll see how it plays out.

Good luck at Sha Tin tomorrow.

First in best dressed?  I have always felt that the best bet just comes to you.

I usually look at about 8 races most weekends during the carnivals to see where I can find a 'value' trifecta.  I end up eliminating races if I find too many horses that can win or ... if 1 horse stands out.  And there lies my way of finding a best bet.  It's a process of elimination.  But I will rarely have a bet on that horse because the odds are often too low - but including the horse in a multi is different.

For instance ... in the Centenary Sprint Cup tomorrow at Sha Tin I expect the no.1 horse to win (Mr Stunning)  I might normally dismiss the race as a betting race but I like to have a wager on the Group 1 races because I know I will be tuning in to watch.

Is it 11 weekends now, thats amazing, it used to be about 5!..It really rivals the spring now....

Also if anybody gets wind of any major news, even if its on media, like Winx is out, its still a good idea to mention it here as ive noticed in the past race odds, although initially suspended, can still be a little slow to change.

There are also some good early bets to be had in the Futures betting i reckon. Sure you ave the disadvantage of not knowing if your chosen one will actually get to the race, but that is offset by the chance of a shorter priced horse not making it and thus you remain with your juicy early odds.

If i can find Tosen Stardom in a 2000m race (that Winx is not in) ill be on it. Love this horse at that distance. I notice hes in The Doncaster @15/1. He has previously run in the Futurity Stakes in Feb 1400m and The Blamey Stakes in March 1600. These may be his lead in races. Also please let us know if anyone spots a Japanese import that might go ok, they usually do!

Not sure what i did wrong here, too early for me on a Sunday i gues......just read the above.

Also rather that get OPs and Mods to try and change the Thread title, lets just start a new one. We can always come back to this if need be. I nominate that we call it, "The Punting Thread." Because people may also want to post about multis etc on Football games inc The Mighty Demons....as well as the races.....Thoughts??

That would work IMO.

Some people are not into the "Punt" so to speak and don't want to hear about it in other threads.

In the post match discussion topics last season some posters were quick to tell us they backed the opposition against us, classic example was the Norf game in Tassie, someone gloated about betting on them to beat us.

Most of us were pretty gutted after that loss and reading that irked people even more. Another example was our disaster in Round 23. We were $11 to miss the finals yet people reminded us what a good bet that was.

I realise people can post anything related to the games but I also realise some Demonlanders don't want to read about it.

I think you can punt against your own team, because it can lessen the pain...haha......still cant bring myself to do it. Were we really 11/1 to miss the finals........golly gee, we really screwed up didnt we. I notice there are some pretty annoying betting types after matches yes. We are bound to get the odd annoying punter i guess, but thats the downside of expansion...haha! So maybe people will go to the punting thread in the future rather than annoy the other posters.

I like to have a 3 or 4 leg multi on Afl games, picking the under or over 39.5 spread and either side under 15.5 for the close ones (you also snag the draw) you cant split. Ive done really well on it at times and always happy to share the love. Its also good mid season when there is no racing on.

Are you ok also with starting a new thread as well Macca? That title ok??

Agree on name change of thread. A few years back i started a punting thread but got no traction so haven't bothered. I saw this one and assumed it was out of date.

I love the horses but largely focus on the Autumn and Spring Carnivals. I also like footy betting, the line mainly.

Autumn carnival is my favourite carnival. It stretches from aprox next weekend through to Easter, with ours first and then Sydney (and obviously their Autumn carnival is much better than their short Spring Carnival) whereas over Spring they overlap meaning big outlays.

Also i find the form is more reliable over Autumn. In Melbourne there are smaller fields than Spring but importantly the form lines are much more reliable and easier to line up, with many horses coming through the same races. Also the consistently firm tracks help and some horses just like this time of year more. In Sydney the wet tracks make picking winners easier as it they knock out half the field.  The Spring carnival is a lottery.

The odds on futures are tempting but realistically they are always super weighted in the bookies favour given how many horses don't get to their GF. I only ever take them a week or so out, and even then not very often. Actually the only race i really look at for futures is the Blue Diamond. I liked the fight Long leaf has been showing but Olivander also appeals with how it has been running on.

I'd prefer to talk about the thoroughbreds only as I don't just see it as a betting sport only.  Especially during the carnivals I'd prefer to only read about what's going on with the races.

I reckon we could have 2 threads - general sports betting (needs a name) & a thread for thoroughbred horse racing only (needs a name)

When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
