The giant ruckman was serviceable in his patch of games in the first half of the season but was overtaken and displaced by Max Gawn and spent most of the second half of the season at Casey.

Free agent at the end of 2016.

Provides ruck depth, but depending on what other ruckmen we bring in this off season he may seek more opportunities elsewhere from 2017 onwards.

7 years on the list for zero impact. Ruck depth at best. Nothing else

Probably the biggest beneficiary of Jamar's departure. Is the only full time ruck option behind Gawn, and at present we don't have much else.

Probably a make or break year in 2016. If he fails to play more than 5 games he is going to struggle to play on. Needs to stay healthy and show if he has got the goods.

Handy backup for Gawn, but you probably wouldn't want him to be first choice ruck indefinitely if Gawn had a long term injury.

I'd play Jake against a guy like Naitanui and just get him to crash into his body at every opportunity.

He's definitely shown some glimpses of what he's capable of and I love that he's got a bit of mongrel about him, but he is far too inconsistent for my liking. I struggle to see him ever being more than a backup.

Gets a tick for me.

Wanted him gone last year but he impressed a few times. We'll need him more next year with the sub rule gone. Good development by the coaches.

Looked a bit better this year. I liked his game against Geelong and has benefited since Russian left.
He will want out ruck stocks to stay as they are. If we bring in a ruckman from elsewhere, his days might be numbered.

He's a tryer and a bit more of an aggressive athlete than an AFL footballer.

If he's happy to continue on a list as ruck depth, with one or two games a year, I'd say he's worth hanging onto. IMHO he'll never be more than an AFL fill in and serviceable VFL player... not that there's anything wrong with that.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
