I'd be very happy to steal 2/5s of Gold Coast's midfield and land Prestia and Bennell.

I wonder Howe soon we'll find out which high profile players are headed for the Dawes.

The Dees have really Jetta-son'd their opportunities this season. We've Gawn and Dunn what only Melbourne could do. Like a Neal-Bullen a China shop. Howe this could happen time and again is Watts really disappointing. I'm con-Vince'd we'll never shut the Dawes on these dark years. We've Cross'd the line with the self-Harmes Sundays. It really Grimes my gears. We're all Terlich'ing our lips hoping we'll be Bail'd out in trade week but even that's a Stretch. So Brayshaw selves, the Hunt is on. Let's hope we can Petracca good midfielder down. If we Kent, I'll be drin-King a slab of Frost-ies to numb the pain and there will be some Michie trigger fingers on Demonland.

Nice

Too right.

The magnitude of destruction caused by key figures post-Watts drafting -- in development, recruitment and other on-field department circles -- was unthinkable. It has practically ruined players.

Agree completely - what we did to Jack Watts in picking him as a schoolboy for his first game against Collingwood on Queen's Birthday was unthinkably bad - and I am not talking in hindsight. It was by far the worst example of player development I have ever seen.

But that's in the past now - hopefully he can continue to improve next year as he undoubtedly did this year - I thought he was very good in the win against Collingwood this year. It's just the lack of intensity that's the problem - I just hope he has that within himself and can bring it out on the footy field. Then he would become a great AFL player.

On the trade front, Harley Bennell would be fantastic for us - we need more midfielders, especially with pace. If Jeremy Howe wants out, then maybe a direct trade plus a second round draft pick will be enough. I would not want to trade our first round pick 6.

The week before in the VFL, pretty sure Watts booted 5 and had 20 odd possessions.

He was playing well enough to get selected, he just was such s youngster and skinny body who got mauled.

And who is to say whether there was mental damage there or he already lacked intestinal fortitude...I suspect a combination of the both.

The reaction to Watts' first game is a massive exaggeration.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
