Darwin Home Games

I haven't looked in your thread T_U, but how have our opposition gone after playing in Darwin? If they're consistently losing as well there might be something in it.

I'm going to stick with Occam's Razor. We have probably historically lost after playing in Darwin because we were a crapola footy side who did a really great job at losing no matter where or who we played in the previous round.

2010 - Port Adelaide had a 47 point loss to Richmond. (Port finished 10th, Richmond 16th)

2011 - Port Adelaide had a 32 point loss to Adelaide. (Port finished 16th, Adelaide 14th)

2012 - Port Adelaide had a 27 point loss to Fremantle. (Port finished 14th, Fremantle 7th)

2013 - Brisbane had a 9 point loss to Port (Brisbane finished 12th, Port 7th)

2014 - Fremantle beat GWS by 76 points (Fremantle finished 4th, GWS 16th).

So the only side to win the week after was Fremantle last year, a top 4 side playing a bottom 4 side at home. All other sides have lost the week after too, although Brisbane and Port in 2012 were beaten by good sides. Port in 2010 was upset, Port in 2011 lost to a similarly ranked side.

Lessons? You're almost certainly right, I think. We lose after Darwin because we suck. This week though there are no excuses - Essendon is worse than we are and we should be beating them. If we run out of puff in the fourth quarter, we'll know why that is.

Hopefully we are up by 40+ come 3/4 time.....

Well if today wasn't proof we're no good after Darwin games then i don't know what is?

Watch West Coast play the Crows.

We are mentally weak, nothing to do with Darwin.

If we were so tired why did we dominate the last quarter.

Fact is, the coaches and players were poor.

Like the players, we should stop looking for excuses and man up.

We've won more games in the NT than we have at Etihad. I wonder if the bus ride effects us?

I'm no advocate for Darwin, but this loss had nothing to do with the Darwin game.

I disagree

We were as flat as we have been all year and I believe it's caused by very tough conditions playing in Darwin

We definitely were flat, but I'd say that was mental more than anything. Whether the players just thought it was going to happen, or whether they were afraid of losing to a basket case (personally I favour the latter), we just didn't have any spark or zip. But the fact we ran all over them in the last quarter suggests it wasn't fitness.

We kicked 18.5 in the game before the Darwin match and 7.18 the game after. Ergo, Darwin destroys kicking accuracy.

I think the logic of the above statement has as much merit as any other. We're a poor team. Playing in Darwin has nothing to do with it.

because we always play so well after it normally.. hangon ..wait..
