For me I really hope we can pick up Nakia Cockatoo with a late teens or early second round pick.

I think this year he is the gem that will slide, the one in years to come that will be in the same category as your Shuey, Zaharakis, D.Beams & Hannebery (all went at #19, #23, #29, #30 in the 2008 draft).

He was forgotten throughout the year due to injury, came down and in his first game back had a blinder in the GF opener.

By all reports and as tested he has an excellent kick, previously said to have clean hands (wasn't in the top of the testing order), that rare Dangerfield/ Judd sprinting speed where he tucks it under the arm and is off, bloody strong and solid build & height 188 cm (will easily and quickly bulk up further - ready for AFL), and he's not afraid to get his nose dirty on the inside by winning the contested ball. Secondly to all that he appears to have a fantastic personality and as reported very coachable.

I can only presume the one thing currently limiting his potential is his endurance due to a year struck down by injury. If so I have no doubt once in the correct AFL environment that will improve.

He for me is the one name, highest on my order I would love to see the club get (late teens or early second round pick).

Edited by ignition.

Nathan Drummond, who is he? Features prominently in all testing results.

19 year old, was injured last year, came back as a over ager. Had injury issues again, but was very good when he played. Tough nut in midfield, uses it well.

Probably a fringe second rounder onward, but think he has plenty to offer. Obviously has a great pace/endurance combo.

The speculation is that he may have jumped beyond our second round pick.

Would be happy to package something that would see us get a mid 1st rounder for Cockatoo. He's an exciting prospect.

Just checking Christian Petracca's testing at the draft combine in view of claims that he didn't test up to pick # 1 standard.

He featured in the top group in the beep test and the vertical standing jump. The knock on him was that he pulled out of the 3km time trial due to injury. Now, if he did a b/t of close to 15, I doubt that he would have many problems completing a handy 3k time so I conclude that the story about his testing not being up to scratch is wrong. Not just that but I'm wondering what's necessary to demonstrate a candidate has tested up to # 1 standard and what do you do with players who didn't test at all - McCartin anyone?

Posted

Pretty sure the testing means more the personality side of it, character leadership etc..

McCartin didn't even test at the draft camp so don't know how he is a number 1 choice based on draft camp results.

The personality side of things isn't really part of testing as such but those aspects are important in a club's due diligence. That said, the reports I've heard about Petracca have been complimentary in that he has great self-confidence and strength in the way he goes about things. If it's true that the Saints have really decided against him because his testing wasn't up to speed, it's poor of them to allow that view into the public domain and could backfire badly.

Not the testing you quoted but it is part of the test. All players do a personality profile, or at least they did. Can't imagine it's changed.

4.55 AM WJ!

Did you wet the bed?

No, I'm not as old as you are OD.

An alarm went off next door and woke me up so I scanned the pages of Demonland to make sure that everything was good in the world while others slept.

That is a serious debate for another time WJ

Did you find anyone else who had alarm problems?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
