2014 Player Review - # 5 Jimmy Toumpas

You make me smile Bitter.

I'm glad were going to use our early picks on what appears to be some real talent. Something that is ready now and has a bit of [censored] about it. I like the two mids Petracca and Brayshaw.

What say you Bitter?

I watched the replay of the Richmond game earlier. Toump was a lot better than I remember. Only the 15 touches and the odd miskick, but he has poise and time when he has the ball in hand that others don't have. I'm looking forward to what he can bring to the table next year.

The guy is a leader. Toumpas, Hogan and Viney are going to lead this club forward. This is not an opinion, it's the reals.

The kid's struggling

thats all you needed to say.

The rest is conjecture...this is fact

Playing some kids before theyre ready doent help.

Trengrove ws good til injured...Scummy....never really ours and no loss

Was ours for 2 years until the toxic culture and a few Mill got to him.

I really thought Toump was progressing well last year. Seemed to bob up and accumulate the pill often late in games. I thought he was

Just seems to lack any explosiveness, a bit like Trenners. Better kick than he, but far worse in the air, just seems to get swamped. Folds easily in a tackle. Maybe his hips have affected his core strength somewhat. Smallish guys who aren't quick, I don't get the draft appeal.

Hugely lacking in confidence this year which doesn't help.

Needs more weapons. Hope he can get some zip in 2015.

He has one main good feature witch is his precise kicking but apart from that he seems slow and not up to afl standard. Just another bad draft pick!

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
