Which senior MFC players can you see sticking around till the end of their careers?

With our 0/3 free agency record in terms of retaining players (Sylvia, Rivers and Moloney) you start to think if there is any player for the Dees that will resist free agency and stay loyal. Here is my take on our best and most talented players:

Jones - The big one. Our best player in terms of performance and value. Up for restricted free agency in exactly 2 years time. Seems to show genuine passion, love and care if his B&F speeched are anything to go by.

Grimes - I would think he and Viney would be the greatest hope of staying. Barracked for the Dees as a kid and is captain. How many captains have changed clubs recently?

Trengove - I think likely. I get the impression the club means a lot to him

Garland - Unknown. Seems to show genuine care for the club.

Frawley - The other big one. Up for restricted free agency next year. Cannot afford to lose him. Says he bleeds 'red and blue'. Who knows?

Viney - See Grimes.

Toumpas - Too early but SA factor

Clark - Shows genuine enthusiasm and love for the club via Twitter. Would a WA team be waiting for him in the next year or 2? Cannot go via free agency until 2019.

Dawes - Unknown. I think he'd have aspirations for being captain or VC.

McKenzie - Showed great loyaly by resisting an offer from Adelaide while on the MFC rookie list. However that was 4 years ago.

Hogan - Way too early to discuss but will give us heart burn each time he nears out of contract status.

Lynden "Limpet" Dunn will stick around past the end of his career.

It's a tough call because we don't know how successful some will become.

If any, Jack Grimes will be one.

Jamar has stated his excitement over his last contract signing that expires next year he will be a one club player.

I think there will be a good chance with Jack Viney too, although who knows these days in relation to GAJ.

I would be gobsmacked if Jones played his career anywhere else barring an amicable parting of the ways for a final year or two. He is a Demon in every sense of the word and will go down as one of our champions of the modern era.

Viney is very similar to Jones, you can see it in his eyes.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #3 Christian Salem

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.
