MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION

I thought I read somewhere that pederson is out with illness- replaced by Strauss? Can anyone confirm?

As of 1.00pm Saturday, the AFL App still has Pederson in and Strauss as emergency.

Jesus i really hope people inside the club read this thread because it really sums up where the MFC is (or isn't) at this stage.

The diehard supporters are in here. We are the ones who buy memberships NOW for next year, and even we are losing interest in this trainwreck right now.

Gold Coast $1.12 says it all. I feel disgusted and very angry because it is all true.

They haven't yet announced the final teams for tonight's games. (I think they announce the final teams at the same time as the sub - so about one and a half hours before the game)

I am preying that Strauss does come in though! (that would mean I have something to look forward to - doesn't make the losses as bad when you are studying the new comers)

Luxbet only gave me $1.09

I hope our new coach watches (or commentates) tonight and pencils in his new team.

At least the cricket is on as well....

Thank god, and we've gotten on top early too. Gazza's finally getting some reward. Nice little haul in the first innings.

Is Watson a problem in that team? Rumour has it that he and warner hate each other..

Can make that rumour #426 about this side. I saw him and Clarke having a laugh on the field yesterday, looking like best buddies, and they supposedly hate each other too. I wouldn't pay much attention.

Watto's been bowling very well actually, from memory he's been the most economical and taken some vital wickets. Just needs to contribute with the bat. I like him dropping down to 6. I think he could do well there. He's never convinced me as an opener.

(We better not turn this into an Ashes thread btw :D)

True, we'll get pounced on.

Hey! If we abuse each other, that's allowed ;)

I'd put Warner on Gazza and tell him to treat Gazza like he did to Root.

Siddle at CHB, to run up through the middle all game with the ball, deliver it, turn around and do it again and again.

Silicon on the goal posts at our end.

And Watto to be the sub - because I'd perversely enjoy the sight of the nancy boy sulking yet again.

Nice...very clever ;)

Strauss and Nicho in for Pedersen and Howe..

Davey sub, good to see Strauss get a go

Bird goes to FF with Lyon as the crumber.

Yep, I like where this is going.

We were too tall last week and gws exposed that so interesting changes, especially with Gawn out as well.

Please god let Strauss show something. I seriously need something to inspire me out of this game. I'll take just about anything.

Watson has bowled very well this series. We need him without Pattinson.

Only good on sticky, slow wickets wyl.

Patto's a great bowler...and he can bat.

Patto is great, but that backbone is not well JR

Any chance Cummins will ever get back?

How come these blokes do their backs in and McGrath and Courtney Walsh played a combined 30 years between them and never had a niggle??

Too much short order cricket.

The bodies are not conditioned for Test bowling imo

I hate 20/20.

It's fun live, though.

Good atmosphere.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

  • PREGAME: Gold Coast

The Demons have the Bye next week but then are on the road once again when they come up against the Gold Coast Suns on the Gold Coast in what could be a last ditch effort to salvage their season. Who comes in and who comes out?

  • POSTGAME: Port Adelaide

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
