We seem to hear little about Mahoney in current discussions.

Can someone tell me: what was his position at the club i.e. what did he actually do and how does his new job differ from his old one?

As Head of Footy Ops he is the interim boss of the FD and reports to Jackson. Everyone below him reports to him (Craig, Viney, Harrington, Taylor)

He used to have a similar title but who TF knows where he was in the structure.

He had the title but Schwab had the job. At least that's been sorted out.

What rjay means by this is that Schwab had 4 people in the FD reporting to him, which means that there is no clear boss of the FD - leaving Schwab as the man with all the knowledge and decision making powers.

I honestly had no idea this was the set-up when we first did it. I thought Craig was the boss and reported to the CEO and Mahoney did the piddley crap Craig didn't want to do, but to have 4 lines of communication upward - while it allows more information upward, not having a clear boss of the FD would not help it function to say the least...

Thanks guys, I was never quite sure where the line of command went with Mahoney, Craig, Schwab et al.

Seems to have been a bit of a balls up eh!

But I suppose my real surprise is that with all the corporate heavyweights on the board no one saw fit to tighten up the lines of communication/job descriptions!

i think Josh Mahoney is rated pretty highly for his footy brain, but he doesn't have the experience or the skill to be the head of footy

I guess its entirely up to the new coach if he stays or not, but he definitely wont head the FD

It isn't up to the new coach - hence the new structure. The only people who should report to the coach, and therefore be appointed by the coach, are the assistant coaches.

As for Mahoney, I think it's up to Jackson. I expect he will either become the head of FD, or he'll be redundant.

Perhaps CS would call each of them into his office to critique his new blazer designs?

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
