AFL Draft & Trade Period Important Dates 2012

ALL I CAN SAY IS THAT WE CONCENTRATE ON A PLAYER LIKE FITZPATRICK TO FILL THE VOID IN THE FORWARD HALF GO AFTER CADDY WE HAVE THE BEST DRAFT SELECTIONS TO ATTRACT A DEAL AND WITH VINEY CADDY & JONES OUR MIDFIELD WILL BECOME A LOT MORE COMPETATIVE> WE THEN NEED ANOTHER TOUGH DEFENDER TO HELP FRAWLEY THEN SOME MID RANGE PLAYERS NOT SUPER STARS BUT CONSISTENT TALENT WHO CAN KICK A BALL THAT CAN LIFTY OUR PERFORMANCE

On the internet - when you type in capitals it sounds to the little 'voice in our heads' like you are yelling.

Little annoying for the readers out there.

Free agency banking ban hits top clubs

With us being the lowest (or highest) club affected by FA we can make some assumptions on the 'Bands' and what they will mean for us:

Band 1 = Pick 5

Band 2 = Pick 26+ (Probable range 28 - 30) [RIVERS]

Band 3 = Pick 29+ (Probable range 35 - 39) [MOLONEY]

Band 4 = Pick 45+ (Probable range 57 - 63) [DUNN]

Band 5 = Pick 48+ (Probable range 66 - 74) [bATE]

[MY GUESSTIMATIONS]

My 'ranges' see:

Band 1 = 2-4 clubs receive a pick in this band

Band 2 = 4-6 clubs receive a pick in this band

Band 3 = 6-8 clubs receive a pick in this band

Band 4 = 6-8 clubs receive a pick in this band

Band 5 = 6-8 clubs receive a pick in this band

I am just 'spitballing' as we need to know two things: 1) how the comp picks are decided, and 2) how the accumulated value works for clubs that have lost multiple FAs.

Regarding jack viney, the only worry is gold coast. Gws have a mfc favorite son as an assistant coach junior mcdonald and no doubt he will make sure they don't get in our way. Best to take caddy off the suns for 13 then get them to guarantee they won't bid for viney

And what makes you think junior would push hard to help us or even have any pull at all??

It's no coincidence that since chocko Williams has left gws and junior Mac appointed an assistant coach that viney is off their radar

Well now that GWS have a 'War' with Richmond its less of an incentive to bid on Viney as they will be helping Richmond out by doing so.

AFL Draft & Trade Period Important Dates 2012

I thought I would write a little on what each date means (or doesn't mean) as I think it will help those new to all this stuff.

October 1 - Commencement of Restricted Free Agency Offer and Unrestricted Free Agency period.

And we are off! FAs will start signing up from this day forward. We might have one or two but who knows...This period goes for 3 weeks.

October 5, 2pm - Nomination of Father-Son Eligible Players and Academy Bidding Players.

This is where Jack Viney becomes officially biddable.

October 8, 10am - Father Son Eligible Players and Academy Players Bid Meeting.

This is when his biddableness starts and ends. Will he cost Pick 3? Will we let him go? You find out this day.

October 8 - Commencement of Trade Period.

On like Donkey Kong now! Seriously though, nothing happens for two weeks of the trading period but Hun sales go through thte roof...so it's all bad. This also goes for 3 weeks.

October 19, 2pm - Deadline for GWS Giants to pre-list balance of any uncontracted players under List Establishment rules.

This is when GWS officially name any other blokes they have convinced to go up there, they also may have a few players they intend to trade from the VFL, WAFL etc.

October 19, 5pm - Close to Restricted Free Agency Offer and Unrestricted Free Agency Period.

All over for the FA - did Cloke go to Carlton? Did Rivers go to Geelong? Did we sign Goddard? Prepare to be thoroughly disappointed...

October 23, 5pm - Trade Incentive Rule (17 year-olds). Deadline for trading.

This is the day we find out whether we get the MD pick necessary for Hogan.

October 26, 2pm - End of Trade Period.

That's all for trading. did everything happen over the final 2 days? Yes? I have mind powers!

October 26, 2.10pm - Trade Incentive (17 year-olds) Selection.

This is the day we find out who we picked when we got the MD pick... Or it could be a boring day.

October 31, 2pm - List Lodgement One.

This is when you find out all the delistees from all the clubs.

November 1 - Commencement to Delisted Player Free Agency Period.

This is when you look at the Delisted FAs and say "Bartel?!" how did you get there? I don't know how much talent will be here but I am sure that we will have a look at a couple.

November 13, 2pm - End to Delisted Player Free Agency Period.

That's it. Only got the drafts left.

November 13, 2pm - Out of Contract Listed Player Draft Nomination deadline, New Player Draft Nomination deadline.

This is where the non-delisted players that want to leave their clubs will nominate for the drafts. Will Stevens, Welligham, et al. be there?

November 13, 2pm - Deadline for Nomination of any use of 2012 GWS Giants Compensation Selections.

This is the day any clubs that lost players to GWS can decide to use their picks in the coming draft or wait for any of the next 5 years.

November 15, 2pm - List Lodgement Two.

This list lodgement will remove those that have decided to go into the draft as an OOC player.

November 16, 2pm - Delisted Player Draft Nomination deadline, Non-Retained Rookies Draft Nomination deadline, Nominated of Queensland Zone Priority Selections and Nomination of NSW/ACT Zone Priority Selections.

Any players not signed up during Delisted FA and any rookies not retained nominate for the draft.

November 22 - NAB AFL Draft, Gold Coast Convention Centre.

The big day.

November 23 - Second Delisted Player Free Agency Period commences.

Did you think you would have more people on your list thatn you actually have? Here's the rejects list again. Have at it!

November 28, 2pm - Out of Contract Listed Players Nomination deadline, International Players Nomination deadline, Players Not Registered / Played Three Years deadline, NSW Scholarship and International Scholarship Players deadline.

Didn't nominate for the ND as an OOC player looking for coin? Here is the PSD nomination day!

November 28, 5pm - Second Delisted Player Free Agency Period ends.

Those that weren't signed up in this second round of Delisted FA have only the PSD left.

November 29, 2pm - List Lodgement Three.

All your players from FA, DFA, and the ND should be here. Most clubs will have a full list.

December 4, 2pm - Delisted Player Nomination deadline.

Still not signed after being delisted? Don't give up hope - the PSD is here!

December 4 - Deadline for GWS Giants to pre-list balance of any previously listed or previously nominated for draft players under List Establishment rules.

GWS getting their breaks once again, doubtful they will be heavy using this.

December 11, 11am - NAB AFL Pre-Season Draft.

The Reject Shop is on! Although GWS and GC might get a chance at a couple of decent players. We will see.

December 11, 11.05am - Brisbane Lions, Gold Coast Suns, GWS Giants and Sydney Swans Eligible Pre-Selected Rookies.

More help for the Northerners to pick Northerners.

December 11, 11.10am - NAB AFL Rookie Draft.

The end of the line. If you ain't pick up here, you are playing VFL. Or Canberra footy... If interested, give me a PM!

That is what is happening this summer.

Nice commentary. Where does Byrnes fit in? (Don't answer that..{smiley})

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.
