You cant buy culture.

No point trying to invent something that has to grow organically .

All the players we have are full of talent and when they get sick of losing they will make a stand .

At the moment they are playing like a very tired team as they have been put through an extended pre season .

"The line in the sand" game will come for us.

We've already seen how flashy football doesn't last.

Hold tight -stick together-the rewards will come .

Never is there effort without reward-or reward without effort .

Then he is not a good player dee-luded.

Stop making excuses to yourself.

Thats how i see it OD. Aplayer without a tank will not be a top line AFL Player.

There are degrees of everything and every AFL players has some talent, but plenty of ours are at the lower end of the scale, or not where you'd want them to be.

I hope I haven't ruined your day.

That was him. "I support the Melbourne club, Tony. Mmm, mmm, mmm".

No. Ivan from Ivanhoe was the Melbourne Supporter. Peter his mate, was a cat.

I think the list isn't half as bad as it's made out to be here. Injuries have prevented the team from gelling. With our best 22 stringing most of a season together we should start to pump.

Our best forward line would look something like Clark/Jurrah/Howe/Green/Jetta/Martin. They'll kick a pile with some good delivery. Clark and Jurrah together would be hard to stop and Jetta could be our Betts in time (good tackling too).

Down back looks like McDonald (Tom)/Frawley/Garland/Rivers/Watts/Davey. Yes, I put Davey at half back, he's a fantastic kick - and lord knows we need better accuracy coming out of half back. He and Watts need to provide rebound/delivery.

Our midfield is definitely the weakest link, and if the club can secure a Boak (or similar) it'd be great. But Jones/Moloney/Sylvia should find renewed strength if the moneyball kids - Grimes/Trengrove/Gysberts/McKenzie/Blease/Tapscott/Couch/Viney - start to work out how to play together (ie. don't over-use the ball/provide decent shepherds etc) and gain a bit of strength. Morton doesn't look the part... but you never know.

Jamar/Martin/Spencer are fine in ruck - no problems there.

The choice of captains is not an accident. They both have a long way to reach maturity. When they do (12-24 months at least) and with a bit of injury-free luck, the current list will smash teams.

Since the Scott Thompson selection we've had 17 top 21 draft picks and not one has cemented themselves as an A grader. That's a pretty spectacular effort.

Now either we haven't recruited overly well, can't develop a player to save ourselves, or are one of the unluckiest clubs in the world. I suspect it's a combination of all three.

In the mean time some clubs have had access to half the top 20 draft picks we have and have ended up with bona fide A graders. I'm not sure whether to laugh, or cry. Even Richmond, who have been the laughing stock of the AFL for 30 years and stuffed up by getting Tambling over Franklin, and had another top 10 pick in Oakley-Nicholls (snigger), have managed to end up with at least two A graders in Cotchin and Deledio.

It beggars belief.

Sad but true.

Well said BH. How does an elite AFL Club get it wrong so often. It is not all Bad Luck.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
