I happened to be on level 4 of the MCC at 1.15 pm last Monday and witnessed a very nice little ceremony: the opening of the "Robert Flower Terrace Bar" and the "David Neitz Terrace Bar". The ceremony was performed by MCC vice president, Steve Smith. Other MCC committee members, Don McLardy, Robby, David and quite a number of former players were in attendance - I was standing next to Rod Grinter!

Robert Flower's brother Tom was also there and Robby spoke fondly about them playing together for the Dee's.

Steve Smith of course a 200 game player for the club was very effusive in his praise for both men. He even fantasized about kicking a perfect pass from full back to Robby on the wing, Robby weaving and baulking around six or seven opposition players then delivering a perfect pass to David at full forward. David naturally slots it "perfectly"!

Steve did mention that when he first saw a very skinny, frail looking Robby arrive at the club he, and others thiought Robby wouldn't last more than a few weeks.

It was nice to see the MCC committee decide to honour to great MFC champs in this way.

Both Terrace Bars are on level 4 in the MCC members area. Pleasant places to enjoy a beer on a warm day!

Thanks for that Dee Dee. Nice to hear about such happenings, and to see a couple of our greats honoured in this way.

Also nice to hear Steve Smith is a VP of the MCC. If I recall correctly, he was originally groomed as a CHF, and showed incredible promise that didn't seem to want to blossom. Then, someone had the bright idea of sticking him at Full Back and the rest is, as they say, history. Became one of our very best in that position. Paul Salmon in his heyday ar Full Forward for Essendon was quoted on one occasion as saying Steve was the hardest Full Back he played on.

Steve, being a VP is in line to be the next (or possibly the one after the next) president of the MCC!

He won our best and fairest award in 1981!

Good Bars. Checked them both out on monday before the bounce.

You guys are lucky you can get in there.

I had to endure the sky scraper that is the top level in the olympic stand.

Am I jealous

YES

Well at least you get your own oxygen bottle on the top level

I sat next to Neita vs Bribane...not a happy chap re game style (back then at least) but he was outstandingly gracious and good humoured towards his numerous camera toting well wishers.

He took my apology for previous years 'in game abuse' (dropped marks, out on the full etc) with a chuckle and a grin.

He deserves every honour MFC can give him and its pleasing to see the MCC acknowledge him as well.
