Two weeks ago at Auskick my 5 yo grandson ( I have several but only one 5 yo) survived to the last round of the football equivalent of poison ball and eventually won it !(wearing his MFC jumper)

The coordinator announced to the ignorant masses : " That's the first win that Melbourne's had all season "

My grandson felt somewhat diminished by that comment.

Now I'm not trying to read too much into these matters but I will say that I do feel we have made significant progress in the last little while and having watched the replay exhaustively it only gets better : many little efforts that up til now we haven't been making did in fact make a huge difference - such as intercepted handpasses and knock-ons that gave players up the ground a chance.

While Rome was not built in a day ( it took six weeks) - we now know what is required.

One or two weeks ago there was no confidence whatsoever in the playing group and how wonderful to see a different attitude on Saturday!

Long may it be replicated !

I hope the coordinator is an Essendon supporter.

Interesting that Neeld didn't include himself in the singing circle after the match

Robbo from the HS said that Neeld was asked by Clint to be part of the circle with Clark and Magner and toook a step back and said its the players moment

But why didnt Sellar join the middle?

Have seen comments and agree that co ordinator deserves some disapproval

BUT

tell the boy not to be diminished but rather to feel prouder than ever His success was seen as and was very significant

Perhaps he needs aquick response prepared for any future derogatory remarks made because he is a Melbourne supporter we all get them

Perhaps this could be a useful thread for us to develop???

for the moment " well we managed to beat the top team" will just have to suffice hopefully we can add "and its a pity the pies werent up to that standard"

I think it would feel similar to how it felt last night. I can't imagine a better feeling, that's for sure. You're optimism paid off, OD. Well done, the win is down to your new found belief in the team! B)

It is an extremely long time ago GTG but my memory is that It feels much better than Saturday night.

I can still remember driving home to the country.

My dad and I must have sung the song 50 times.

I've heard my Dad reminisce about Ray Gabelich's run down the wing to kick a goal and then Crompton's timely response countless times. I would give just about anything to see something like that.

It's nice to have had the win on the weekend to re-store some belief in the list and the coach, but I still think we are a few years away from experiencing anything close to the ultimate glory again.

Yes I agree it seems a little disingenuous to say it this week

But here goes

We are 1 -9, I think the dream is still a long way off yet.

However after we beat the Pies on Monday I might revise that forcast!!!

So the optimistic OD is sticking around for another week?

So the optimistic OD is sticking around for another week?

I wondered if you would pick it up.

Well after last week it would be a little churlish to quite now

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
