and yet there is still some hope...

It's even happened for us within the last 20 years.

Won the spoon in 97' and then went on to a Prelim in 98' and should have won the flag IMO. That was our best chance to win one since 64'.

White & Stynes sharing the ruck duties. A forward line of Neitz, Schwarz, Farmer, Lyon and a young Robbo who was keeping Shaun Smith out of the side. Shanahan & Ingerson holding down FB & CHB. And players like Tingay, Viney, Woewodin, Leonceli, Rigoni & Kowal ruuning through the midfield.

That was the most recent to get away!

So history shows that it can turn quickly.

Yes you can but the team of '98 had much more class than we have at our disposal now. ATM we have about four guys who can actually hit a target consistently.

The team from 1995-2000 never lacked good players, it just was shot with injuries a lot of the time. Anytime we got our key players on the field we were successful, but it happened only so often. That 98 team was great, it went after it every week.

Both Essendon and Adelaide suggest that things can change quickly with the right preparation and belief.

I remember that game well. It was a seminal game for both our fortunes. They just sacked their coach, we were on top of the ladder. They played with heart, we played like millionaires. We proceeded to lose all but one game for the rest of the season and bombed out early in the finals. They became a champion side and we became a rabble.

Think you might be a little confused with another game there. We beat them in round 8 2006, won many more games before bombing out in the finals that year, think you're thinking of our win over them in 04'.

There is one missing element.

Both these clubs had a good list to start with.

The MFC list particualy the senior players are not AFL standard.

You cannot pull up yours socks if you do not have any on.

That is the MFC problem

And we should all bear in mind that we're still a mathematical chance for the Top 4.

Also we would have retired Dustin Fletcher the day after he turned 30.

But at the time most people were writing the Essendon list off as not being up to standard, poor midfield lacking pace. Dempsey, Davey and co frontrunners, Stanton the worst player to pull on a jumper, Lucas and Lloyd were past it but at least they had Fletcher down back still producing. It's only in hindsight their list looks good.

there was no hindsight by a number Bomber fans I know.

They kept saying it is the coach that is most of the problem.

Seems they were right.

Maybe, and I'm sure they weren't the ones having a go at Stanton, but their was a big knock on their list from the so called football experts at the time and even up to this year their mids have been questioned, need to get some help for Watson, that's why they had a real go at Caddy. Heard has talked about developing from within and so far it seems to be a plus, there might be some hope for us yet.

The coach, well it was always entertaining to listen to the Essendon supporters on talkback having a go at Knights.

So on that basis rjay I can look forward to a rosie 2013?

I can carn't I?

Everyone was jumping up and down telling us how ordinary Essendon's list was. And there is still a lot of season left for them to prove that right.
