We at Demonland have thought long and hard about when is the appropriate time to put an end to the Voldemort threads and have come up with June 24, 2012 to enable us to come to closure with this person and his family.

Anything to do with him will be finished, kaput, over after we give GWS a flogging in Round 13 including the thread dedicated to anything but the little creep him.

That still leaves us with 122 days to bag the living suitcases out of the Little Lord and co.

Can I Just say a few words about what some see as negative comments.

We at the Melbourne Football Club have suffered much defeat on and off the field for nearly Five decades ,

Despite near extinction of this proud club ,the oldest football club on the planet ,we have managed to survive this long period of failure and have seen off setbacks ,disappointments and traitors who call themselves professionals .Somehow we're still here .

Maybe there is a little bit of the amateur spirit in our club -the belief that the jumper should mean something despite the modern world affixing a dollar value to everything and everyone .Maybe we are naive and old-fashioned in our belief that loyalty still has a part to play in human endeavour .Maybe we are just plain stupid-stuck in a time warp where men were men and a mans' word was his bond and his honour.

The world has moved on since 1964 .Ronald Dale Barrassi and Norm Smith are no longer powerful men in this competition .They were betrayed by men who never knew the importance of loyalty forged through battle ,men who believed that real power comes from clever administration and astute ,passionless decision-making .In turn these men were forced to leave not just a football club ,but their home .

When I remember the tears streaming down faces in 1987 after we lost a game on a technicality from an error made by an Irishman .When I remember that same club stomping on our hopeful dreams by a record margin .I have nothing but hatred and loathing for the Hawthorn football club .I think hatred still has a part to play in the human heart because it is a human emotion that we feel when we have been wronged. Hatred lies in the hearts of men to this day because we are human .I have no problem with rage and hatred and passion because they mean we are still alive and we still feel like a wrong must be righted .

Don't tell me that the world is a different place now and that football is just a business .When I take my son to watch us win a Grand Final in the next few years he wont understand what the business side means .He will watch the tears stream down my face and see that his old man is alive and well ,and has passion for this life .Until then , I refuse to forgive my enemies .I refuse to accept the "realities" of the modern world and the almighty dollar .I refuse to forgive those who have betrayed this great club .I stand side by side with those who maintain their hatred of those that have wronged us ,who have robbed us ,and betrayed us . I may forgive one day but I will not forget .

But this is the "Izzy Rule" where if a player has significant promotional value to the AFL as a whole the AFL foots the bill for most of their contract outside the salary cap. It's entirely separate from the "Judd Rule" which states that now that Carlton have secured massive outside payments for their stars all new outside payments will be counted as part of the salary cap. You really have to keep your AFL Special Rules straight.

And peeople think that the GC $uns & GW$ will have salary cap problems next year. No they won't. They will recruit whoever they want. In 20 years no one will remember how they began.

Would love to have Martin, but the consensus amongst AFL clubs and the media was that Scully and Trengove were clearly the top 2. I don't know of many who would say that at the time Martin would have been a better selection.

hmmm..."at the time"....interesting concept. It is a concept that is not quite understood by many on these boards.

I don't poo-poo the Darling vs Cook argument as there was quite vigorous debate on this very board about who we should take with our first pick in that draft- some said a firm yes to Darling and some said no. I respect the Watts/Niknat debate as people were split on who we should take. There were many different opinions on the Gysberts/Strauss/Tapscott selections and proposed alternatives.

Until someone somewhere points me to where they said we should have taken anyone but Scully/Trengove with the first two picks very close to draft time I will counter anyones argument about how we failed in these draftings with "thank you Captain Hindsight."

I suggest your post be amended to say " I dont know ANY rather than I dont know MANY"

It is interesting that for a long while the preferred flavor was Scully/Butcher. I'm thinking I wish the doubts on Butcher hadnt surfaced that made him drop to no 8 as he is looking like he will be more than ok.

Drafting is far from an exact science Nutbean as you are probably well aware.

It is always a gamble because no one can guarantee how one player will develop campared to another.

There are lots of examples of players selected way outside the top 10 who turn out to be great players and lots inside who end up only average.

I doubt the MFC would have ever have picked Martin or Darling no matter what other people thought.

They simply were outside our image of nice boys.

And look what happened they got well and truely done over by the nice boy from Berwick or wherever he came from.
