Top 10 Left-the-club in their prime

Featured Replies

Darren Jolly and The Wiz.

We got the best out of the Wiz, he was past his prime. That said i was furious when he left, having told members weeks before he wanted to be a one club 10 year player.

From what i have read Stuart Spencer was the greatest player to leave the Melbourne Footy club 2 b & f's (56 and 57) in premiership years not far off a brownlow or two in one of the greatest sides in history what if............ He had of stayed in 58?

"suprised" you can't read. Try Demonators post above.

Fixed the spelling error which obviously you had need to highlight. Missed Demonators post as was scanning through and for Farmer not The Wiz. Still surprised had not been mentioned by more.

Stan Alves was sacked. I went to a coaches clinic a few years ago and he explained that he didn't leave but was sacked because they were starting on a youth policy and he was told by the newly appointed coach, I think it was Skilton, that he didn't fit into the strategy. He wasn't happy and thought his career was over but got a call out of the blue from North and went on to play in a Premiership the next season.

Nothing like the facts.

Skilton was coach 1974 -77.

Alves left MFC at the end of 1976 and played the twilight years of his career at NM where he won a flag in 1977. It wasnt a call out of the blue. Barassi targetted him and Alves was treated abysmallly by MFC during his playing career.

I thought Matthew Bishop was on the cusp of being one of the leagues better defenders when he left for Port. Was also at a time when we were crying our for tall defenders

Nathan Bassett was a similar story.

The late Troy Broadbridge was on the cusp of being a very good defender when he was sadly taken away from us almost 7 years ago.

I think Troy Broadbridge gets a fair bit to much credit purely because of his tragic passing. He was nothing more than a handy average player.

Disagree boydie , I think Troy Broadbridge was the difference in Daniher not getting a flag .

Sure he was a handy player when taken but was on the verge of being the lynch pin in the backline that Daniher was desperately searching for .

But alas , we'll never know .

Has anyone mentioned Barassi? (yeah Bush Demon) Doc Roet, Don Williams (yeah 3031), Keenan, Elshaug?? Some others, hardly in their prime, Bamblett, Wilson, Charles,

I'm with you there boydie. No disrespect whatsoever, and it was a tragedy that Troy was taken at such an early age, but I don't think he was the player that Daniher was looking for to play a major part in a premiership assault.

Rest in piece Troy, but you don't make this list sorry.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
