Bay Riffin 1,518 Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 With O'Meara and Crouch already selected, what picks are left from the commonly labelled mini-draft? and when does the remaining bidding close? I am intrigued because i understand the thought of 'selling off' the top 4 underage picks due to come on next year, but if the remaining two are next year, shouldn't we know with greater certainty who will be a likely star at AFL level (e.g Trengove who stepped up in his last year playing finals in SANFL)
Chelly 858 Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 The remaining picks will be taken next year - they're 16 year olds ATM.
rpfc 29,020 Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 I was once confused like you are Bay but the mini-draft of 17 year olds has the 17 year olds from each draft - they are not the same pool of players. So Chelly is right, they are 16 and probably in year 10 wagging class and talking about LMFAO or Katy Perry or who else do kids like?...Morgan Freeman.
H_T 3,049 Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 LOL...Morgan Freeman. Does anyone have any 'embryonic mail' of 16 year old guns who we may be at least interested in at this stage ? Preferably the midfield guns who will reach star status....Those who may be chosen by GWS for the Mini Draft.

They voluntarily nominate themselves if interested.
Barney Rubble 1,576 Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 How old is Billy Stretch now? What's the chance of picking him up under the F/S rule?
H_T 3,049 Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 GWS don't chose candidates for the mini-draft. They voluntarily nominate themselves if interested. Voluntarily nominated. Maybe encouraged.
daisycutter 30,004 Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 Voluntarily nominated. Maybe encouraged. no doubt there is encouragement/discouragement from many quarters for many different reasons i can't see what incentive gws could offer other than the chance that gws won't get you, which is not such an issue in 2012
rpfc 29,020 Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 I thought the clubs put up 8 names each and then the kids had to agree?
H_T 3,049 Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 I thought the clubs put up 8 names each and then the kids had to agree? Tick. I can see encouraging and discouraging....and given Matty Rendell's view, GWS and the like would be perhaps discouraging .
Range Rover 1,935 Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 How old is Billy Stretch now? What's the chance of picking him up under the F/S rule? Let's maybe wait til he goes through puberty first. What I want to know is does Rod 'Balls' Grinter have a son. Now there's a kid we should sign up early.
